Summary: Quatre is looking at the snow, deep in thought, when Trowa comes and decides to help Quatre take his mind off his heavy thoughts.
For jania_monster. Just because <3
Quatre gazed out of the window to the snowy street beyond. It was dark and cold outside, and though the snow looked pretty as it floated gently down to join the other flakes already resting on the ground, it was far from what he’d grown up with.
When he hadn’t been at one of the colonies, Quatre had been in the desert. While it had gotten cold at night in the winters, they’d never gotten snow. The snow was a deception. It looked so peaceful from where he was sitting, yet he knew that it was really a harsh and unforgiving substance.
Almost like the war…
It was easy to read the paper or watch the television and see the war going on in a different place because you weren’t there personally.
He shivered and pulled his knees up to his chest.
Quatre had heard battles called beautiful by Wufei and by others with strange, romantic thoughts about fighting, but to Quatre, battles were not beautiful. There was nothing beautiful about people losing their lives and growing cold.
Like the snow.
He blinked as a blanket was placed around his shoulders before Trowa sat silently down on the couch beside him.
“We’ll be heading out tomorrow,” Trowa said simply.
“I see…” Quatre said quietly, then rested his chin on his pulled up knees. He was still cold, though it was hard to tell whether it was the temperature or his thoughts that chilled him. He shivered again and, after a moment, Trowa scooted close, moving under the blanket with him and wrapping an arm around him.
“You think too much,” Trowa whispered in his ear.
Quatre blinked and turned his head to look at him. “I didn’t even say anything...”
A small smile touched Trowa’s lips and he said softly, “You didn’t have to.”
They held each other for a time before Quatre said, “What do you think about snow?”
“I wouldn’t recommend going out in it naked.”
Quatre frowned. “I wasn’t thinking about going out.”
Trowa’s hand inched down and started unbuckling Quatre’s belt. “Were you thinking about going naked?”
“What? No,” he said, a smile growing on his face as Trowa’s fingers ghosted against his skin, making him squirm.
Trowa pushed him onto his back and kissed him on the neck. “Then why did you bring it up?”
“I asked about snow!” Quatre chuckled, wrapping his arms around Trowa’s back.
“Sex? What?” Trowa said, moving his head down under the blankets. Quatre could feel him licking and nipping at his skin.
“Snow!” Quatre said as clearly as he could.
“What? Go slow?” Trowa said, and Quatre could feel his pants being pulled down.
“No!” Quatre said, laughing loudly now as Trowa began nibbling at his inner thighs. “Snow! You know! The white stuff!”
“Is that what they call it on L4?” Trowa said, his breath tickling Quatre’s leg. He squeezed his eyes shut, laughing and squirming as Trowa began licking him in a particularly sensitive spot.
Suddenly there was the sound of a throat clearing and when Quatre opened his eyes, he could see Wufei standing at his head, looking down at them with folded arms and a deep scowl.
“Ah… uh…” Quatre stammered.
“I happened to be sleeping…” Wufei said grumpily in a tight voice. “I would appreciate it if you kept the noise down…”
Trowa’s head popped out of the covers and he said seriously, “Sorry… I was trying to cheer him up…”
“You never cheer me up like that,” Duo’s voice sounded a moment before he walked groggily into the room.
Heero walked out right after him, glared toward the couch with a look that seemed to promise death to anyone who dared to cheer Duo up like that, then said, “Shut up. We’re trying to sleep.”
As he stalked back out of the room, Duo followed him and they could hear him say, “I was sleeping. You were playing that shooter game on your laptop.”
Wufei sighed, shook his head, and started out of the room with a, “I don’t want to know what you’re doing in here, so just keep it down. Alright?” And, without waiting for an answer, he too left the room.
When it was just the two of them again, Trowa moved up a little more, kissed Quatre’s cheek, and murmured, “I like the snow. It gives me a good reason to be close to you....”
As they snuggled up to each other, Quatre smiled, glad to have something else to fill his mind besides the dark and bothersome thoughts he’d been having on this dark and cold night... in this dark and cold war…
Perhaps the war and snow really were alike. After all, if it hadn’t been for the war, he would never have met Trowa; and if it hadn’t been for the snow, then he might not be laying here with Trowa right now…
It was better to have good similarities, though he knew such blissful thinking wouldn’t last longer than the night, and in the morning, they’d have to part ways and go out into the snow and the war and do what they must until the war was over and spring came.
