Sometimes, at night, you're sitting in front of the computer and far too tired to be doing this. Then your perception flips a switch and suddenly it's not a computer monitor in front of you sending electric flashes to tiny nodules of liquid crystals. Suddenly it's a window to another place, suspended in place. Like those doors in the old cartoons that lead somewhere else. And you look at the screen from the side just to make sure, and it's lit up and moving and alive on one end, and dark and black and dead on the other and you're overcome for a second by the sheer wonder of being able to hang a whole world in front of your eyes, disassociated from its physical location. It's amazing.
