05. Rupert Giles & Buffy Summers
Travers: Your affection for your charge has rendered you uncapable of clear and inpartial judgement. You have a father's love for the child, and that is useless to the cause.
While they may not be blood related, they're father & daughter in every way that counts! Their relationship was always one of my favourite things about the show, and probably the most consistent one. He was always there for her, supported her through everything, even when he disapproved. I love how their relationship developed from him being completely exasperated with her in the beginning to completely respecting her for the way she handled things. One of my absolute favourite Buffy/Giles moments was in Dead Man's Party when she came back home, and he just had that little moment to himself in the kitchen where you could see the total relief that she was safe and home ♥
04. Noah & Claire Bennet
Noah: You'd be surprised what a father would do for his daughter.
I always go back and forth on my love for these two, because the way the writers go round in circles with the whole.. they love each other - HRG does something questionnable - Claire hates him - Claire forgives him, can get rather annoying. But when they're good, they're reeeally good. And they never fail to make me smile. HRG's entire existance is pretty much to protect Claire, and he might go about it the wrong way sometimes, but he always does it for her. And Hayden/Jack just have such great father/daughter chemistry in real life that it completely translates.
03. Lorelai & Rory Gilmore
Rory: My ultimate inspiration comes from my best friend, the dazzling woman from whom I received my name and my life's blood, Lorelai Gilmore. My mother never gave me any idea that I couldn't do whatever I wanted to do or be whomever I wanted to be. She filled our house with love and fun and books and music, unflagging in her efforts to give me role models from Jane Austen to Eudora Welty to Patti Smith. As she guided me through these incredible eighteen years, I don't know if she ever realized that the person I most wanted to be was her. Thank you, Mom. You are my guidepost for everything.
The only mother/daughter on my list! Which is a little odd for me, there really aren't all that many great mother/kid relationships on tv. At least not that I've been able to get into. But anyway, how can you not love Rory & Lorelai? I'm pretty sure they're the relationship every mom and daughter probably wishes they could have, heh. It was always just so natural and believable, and S6 when they're not talking always frustrates me. IT'S JUST WRONG. Even their smallest and most insignificant interactions are great.
02. Jack & Sydney Bristow
Jack: Sydney Bristow, my daughter... has come to believe that when I look at her, I see the embodiment of all my flaws. And this afternoon when I learned that she may have been exposed to a life-threatening disease, I realized that she might die believing that. But nothing could be further from the truth. When I look at her, when I look at the little girl who raised herself to become one of the most extraordinary human beings and one of the finest agents I've ever had the privilege of knowing, I see only the promise of my own redemption. Turning myself in was the only way I could think of to make that clear to her, to prove that despite... my limited abilities as a father, I love her more than I could ever say.
When I was rewatching Alias recently it just reminded me how much I love this relationship. They kind of have elements of Claire/HRG in that they had a lot of Jack doing something questionnable to protect Sydney, which she then hated him for, but eventually forgave. But.. Alias did it better, and they never annoyed me with it. It's so amazing how far their relationship came from the beginning, and how although Jack always loved Sydney, he grew and learned how to become an actual father to her. He was always willing to do whatever it took to protect her, and the speech above is pretty much exactly why I love him ♥ (and with Irina, they were the most awesome spyfam ever)
01. Keith & Veronica Mars
Veronica: I love you. I love you so much. I knew you'd come, I knew you'd save me.
Well, duh. Keith/Veronica have got to be the ultimate awesome daddy/daughter team. I loved their snark, and how hilarious they always were together. I loved how they'd do anything to protect and look after each other, and stood by each other no matter what. I loved that they barely ever went more than an episode or two on bad terms. I just loved everything about them ♥
and in real life...
(skipping SMG/ASH here because there are barely any pics of the two of them, lol)
