For some reason I have been thinking about this since last night, and the various social media sites I've tried, and why I keep coming back to LJ.
I tried MySpace, which just wasn't for me, Facebook, also not for me. The things you could do on both sites that LJ do not offer, I didn't want anyway. On MySpace I actively hated going to someone else's page and hearing music I would never listen to by choice. The games on Facebook annoy me, so my sort lived time spend on them tended to end up making me feel vaguely irritated.
Then there are the LJ clones. Greatestjournal, now defunked, insane journal, which I never liked, hated the colour scheme of the log in page and profile page, annoyed by the tacky slogans, and the face just made me want to throw things at the screen. Now Dreamwidth. I just never think about it, it really hasn't made an impression on me in any way. Maybe I should try a paid account, but I would rather just save the money as I can do everything I want on LJ. The one thing I like on DW is my name, Lady_Windermere, but not that much. I guess I'm just so used to being called woman_of_ now, I sometimes think of myself in that name.
Now of course I've had LJ for 5 years. I've put time and effort into it, built up friendships, got to know the people here, and even had the pleasure of meeting a few in RL. It has all the communities and interests of my main hobby, fandom, and I know them. I also know the ones to avoid to allow me to enjoy my happy place here. That being said, the biggest draw to LJ are my friends. I just do not want to start again on another site. Yes LJ does things that have me rolling my eyes and wondering if management really know the role of LJ in our lives. That this is where we come to let our hair down, with people we have cultivated over time that we feel comfortable sharing things that perhaps we would hesitate to tell our RL friends. That doesn't bother me, because I love my LJ friends, and many I feel I know better than RL ones, and many I feel know me better than people do in RL.
I also visit Twitter a lot. I just do not see it as a Social Media Site. I love my LJ friends who I follow and follow me on Twitter, but really, with twitter it offers three things outside of LJ. News, recipies and celebs. That is what keeps me going back, what Twitter offers more off than I get on LJ.
Oh and can I just say that these five years on LJ have been well worth it. LJ itself can be a daft company, but the real value in this Social Media site is the friends I have made.
Happy holiday promotion!

Anyway, much as I suspect this is to try and gain back some of the money they lost due to
strikethrough, if anyone wants one, let me know. Doesn't say anything about icons, so I suspect if you did want more icons you would have to buy the add-on as well.
Right I'm With LiveJournal, Dreamwidth and Insane Journal, so considering what to do with them. I suspect Livejournal will continue to be my main journal, I will back up my posts once a month on Dreamwidth, so as not to have a whole load of the same posts appearing on both journals at one time. Insane Journal, I guess I'll just leave. It always annoyed me.
My Lj challenge will only be posted to lj, until the back up, so shouldn't show up on Dreamwidth, until the end of the month back up. The Masterlist of J2 AU recs I will post at both journals.
There will be some original content here at Dreamwidth for friends I have here but not at LJ. If LJ is down, I will probably be at Dreamwidth not Insane Journal.
Now I have to decide if I want a paid account at Dreamwidth so I can have more icons (I find six just not enough), and polls. It might also be good to crosspost at Insane Journal. I do love the idea that LJ gets some compitition to keep it on it's toes, and not be as high handed has it has been in the past, and I think Dreamwidth is the best for that.
I'm not sure where to offer the tarot readings...continue doing that just on LJ, or do it at DW as well.....Ummmm!
Anyone else got any thoughts? What are you doing with your accounts?
Yes, the kids did have a sleep over in the tents last night. Not so bad through the night, but the earliest riser was the little girl who runs around screaming at the top of her lungs, which she was happy to do at 6am, waking everyone up.
I cannot believe they allowed a bunch of kids to sleep in the back garden in this area. *shakes head* It is not as if no-one knows how bad it is, we make headlines in the paper with our drug problem, crime problem....every problem.
I therefore have the creative juices of the brain dead, please don't wait for me to post my response to the challenge before posting your own. I will try and get some sleep and do some writing, but I promise nothing.
I also had problems getting onto live journal as well. Kept telling me the link was broken. I did find a way round it, but was logged out on that link, and had to log back in.
It has not been a good morning so far!
Oh just remembered David is 60 today, must phone him. We met up yesterday and I gave him his card and took him for a meal at his favourite restaurant, where we both had a fantastic steak pie.
Just been looking at my LJ profile page and my activity on it and found this
