I read all the books. I remember sitting on the doorstep waiting for the postman to bring me my copy of Order Of The Phoenix and literally walking around all day with my nose buried in it.

I've seen a couple of the movies. I think Goblet Of Fire was the last one I saw. I'm not a big movie person in general though

I often find that if I've read a book, the film just never is as good.

Love the books, read them all several times.

I've seen all the movies but the last two parts. I'll wait until part 2 comes in DVD and watch them together. I'm in no hurry to see it because I'm not near a fan of the movies as I am the books.

I think, from my reaction to LotR's films I doubt I'ld bother with the films

I've read all the books and seen all the films, and while there are things I like about both, I prefer the books, as they have far more detail.

I'm often of the opinion that books are better.

I've seen most of the films, but not Half-Blood Prince. I've read all of the books, mostly only once.

It's been part of my children's childhood, and thus compulsory, and an important thing to read to link with my pupils. I'm not heartbroken that it's ending, though I will go to see the last film, if only to enjoy the Bonham-Carter chewing the scenery.

I guess you do have to keep up to date with what the younger generation are doing in your position. I guess you are not the biggest fan though
bogwitch From: bogwitch Date: July 17th, 2011 08:11 pm (UTC) (Link)
I've read the first book and seen all the films bar the last one, but there was a box to tick for that.
bogwitch From: bogwitch Date: July 17th, 2011 08:13 pm (UTC) (Link)
My answer to question three would be that while the films are watchable, they are too derivative and Harry's perfectness gets on my nerves too much to say I actually liked them.
elebridith From: elebridith Date: July 17th, 2011 08:33 pm (UTC) (Link)
Not entirely true - I saw the first and second movie and really enjoyed them, but the following ones - I don't know why I didn't see them, but I don't really miss watching them. Love the books though!
woman_of_ From: woman_of_ Date: July 17th, 2011 08:57 pm (UTC) (Link)
If you've read the books, the films often don't have the magic!

Aaand I'm proud to say that I was one of the first people to discover Harry Potter. I was already working in a bookstore, and we got a review copy before it was actually published in Germany. I loved it and rec'd the hell out of it to my coworkers. :-)

Well done you *hugs*
goldenusagi From: goldenusagi Date: July 17th, 2011 08:55 pm (UTC) (Link)
Not for me. I read the first book when I was a kid, and didn't really get into it. I sat down and watched all six movies last year, and found myself losing interest in the fifth and sixth ones.

I've done neither, but don't think I've missed out on anything!

I checked "Read all and Seen all," but honestly I haven't seen 7 Part 2 yet. I'm seeing it tomorrow night.

Yes, but you intend to so that is what counts
kudagirl From: kudagirl Date: July 17th, 2011 09:02 pm (UTC) (Link)
I'm not a fan of the Harry Potter series. I've seen most of the films because Tommy loves the books and it would be a crime if we did not see the films. Seriously, it would be heartbreaking for him if he didn't get to see the films. He even flew up to Ohio to go to the opening midnight showing with one of our friends who is as big a fan as he is.

I'll see it in a couple of weeks when it cools off a bit. Right now it is too hyped up and the crowds are crazy.

Very sensible decision. If you are not in the heart of it all, best to wait!
lavendergaia From: lavendergaia Date: July 17th, 2011 10:24 pm (UTC) (Link)
I've read all the books and seen all the films. They are midnight traditions. <3

Whenever anyone brings up the Potter books, I point out that Ursula Le Guin wrote the Earthsea books in the sixties; of which the Potter books are a white middle-class rip-off.

And that's me being polite :-)

Ray.

Haven't read either, so cannot comment!

I've read all the books and have seen most of the movies but not the 6th and 7th ones. I'm not even sure if I've seen the whole 5th one, lol. I really don't like the movies. The books I like but I don't *love*. :)
woman_of_ From: woman_of_ Date: July 18th, 2011 05:55 am (UTC) (Link)
I've not read or seen either. My neice was into them, but my friends daughter wasn't. I just never got into them I guess because I didn't need to read or watch them.
stargazer60 From: stargazer60 Date: July 18th, 2011 12:52 am (UTC) (Link)
My daughter is 20. She was *just* the right age to get into the whole HP universe when it all started. And together we shared it all....
woman_of_ From: woman_of_ Date: July 18th, 2011 05:56 am (UTC) (Link)
Yes, that would've made a difference for me as well. I had noone younger to get me into them.
