The Walking Ad Agency

AMC went totally batshit insane with the amount of commercials for The Walking Dead during tonight's season finale of Mad Men. I'd be annoyed if I weren't on the verge of making TWD my new fandom. ;) The "current population" ad is definitely my favorite, since I can count myself among all the dead people. The official site has a new 17-minute making-of featurette. I tried to keep tabs on the production over the summer, so how the hell did I miss that they filmed several scenes at a theater about five minutes from here? Hmph. I swear, half my (potential) fandom love is because the pilot script was so marvelous, and half is because I can't wait to see my city devoured by zombies. I'm a bit shallow that way.

As for the season finale of Mad Men.... Collapse )

A while back, I had a streak going in which I posted to LJ every day, eventually hitting 1,000 straight days. (I think it ended in April 2008.) Sometimes I'd stick some pointless junk in a post just to keep it going, and that's where the linkspam habit started. ;) Now that I'm doing good to post every third day, I've realized that, in many ways, it was easier for me when I had to make myself post something before midnight rolled around. Now I even have a little "LJ topics" list in my phone's notepad app, so I can remind myself of things I want to say here, but I still often come up blanks. The other day I heard about NaBloPoMo, which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like. Maybe getting back into the daily posting habit will help me out!

Nothing much on my mind tonight, though. I'm currently watching Mad Men, and Collapse )

Mad Men Me!

This is the best promotional tie-in that I've seen in ages: Mad Men Yourself! Collapse )

I checked the credits at the bottom. Looks like they contracted with Dyna Moe for the artwork; she's the fan who made those fabulous desktop wallpapers last year. I still have the Joan-with-copier one on my old laptop. And I suspect that, as with similar make-your-own-avatar apps from the past, we'll be seeing these all over the place in the next few weeks. ;)

Just call me "Betty".

Last night I dreamt that my boyfriend was Don Draper.

Oh, dear. Charming, handsome, intelligent... fucked-up, sexist, possibly sociopathic Don Draper. And the weirdest part is that it wasn't even a hot 'n sex-ay dream. Nope, we were doing totally normal things like cooking satay chicken after work or going to the mall. It was snowing! This is very, very weird and may say disturbing things about my psyche. I'm scared.

A hamster in a maze.

I've been watching a lot of Ninja Warrior and Unbeatable Banzuke on G4 this week. The former is too repetitive, but the latter is fun. I love a good obstacle course. So I watched Wipeout on NBC Tuesday night, and that was a big disappointment. Not so bad with the mute on, but the commentary is just too mean-spirited. I enjoy schadenfreude in certain circumstances, and yes, people on competitive reality shows have to know it comes with the territory. But this made me really uncomfortable.

Yesterday I ran to Blockbuster to rent the Mad Men DVDs as soon as they were available, and I'm now up to episode 5 in my rewatch -- I watched sporadically and didn't pay much attention last summer. I'm enjoying it more now, and it's an amazing work of art (yeah, "art" applies in this case.) But it reminds me of The Wire in that both are shows that I truly appreciate for the overall magnificence, but I just can't seem to *enjoy* them as much as I wish I did.

Time for more Emmys fun! Gold Derby tracked down the lists of finalists for all the acting categories except Comedy Actor and Comedy Supporting Actress, though the Drama Actress one isn't confirmed. Collapse )
