BSG fic: "Remember Me as a Time of Day" (1/?)

Time to throw my hat into the post-"Crossroads" fic sweepstakes. I'm posting this as a WIP for several reasons, but I have a detailed outline and promise to finish this one. ;) Prepare for a jumpy timeline -- hopefully it makes sense! The title comes from the song of the same name by Explosions in the Sky, and I cribbed a line from BTVS (but it's a fairly common adage on its own.) Much love to my magnificent beta, indigo419!

Title: "Remember Me as a Time of Day"
Rating: R
Pairing: Kara/Lee
Timeline: Through "Crossroads II"
Summary: Fear creeps under his skin, catching his breath. "Faith," he tells himself. "Just have faith."

Fic: "One-Eighty"

I've been wanting to write some fill-in-the-blanks fic before whatever might happen in tonight's episode. I also wanted to get inside Kara and Dee's heads, to try and make sense of their marriages and all the complications in their lives. Much love to indigo419 for marvelous beta, and to marenfic for some brainstorming help!

Title: "One-Eighty"
Characters: Kara, Dee, Sam, Lee, and all their combinations.
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 4,161
Spoilers: Through "Taking a Break..."
Summary: Dee stares at her back, wondering what it is about Kara Thrace that has half the ship either loving or hating her, sometimes both at the same time.

BSG fic: "In the Sight of the Gods" (1/1)

I'd originally started this fic after "Unfinished Business", but "The Eye of Jupiter" trumped my plans, not that I minded much! I finally got it to work, thanks to some invaluable help from my beta and amazing friend, indigo419. It's a bit mushy, but hopefully in a realistic way. Hope you like it!

Title: "In the Sight of the Gods"
Pairing: Kara/Lee
Rating: R
Word Count: 3,593
Spoilers: through "The Eye of Jupiter"
Summary: Scenes from a marriage.

... in which I reveal myself to be a dorky fangirl.

(Posting twice in one night? Wow. I'm so darn prolific.)

greycoupon found another new radio interview with Katee Sackhoff that took place either last night or tonight. You can download it here. Warning: it contains some HUGE SPOILERS, even on that download page. Sorry! Here are the Collapse )

I do have an ulterior motive for posting about this. I have this *thing* about not really wanting to know too much about the actors themselves, mostly because it screws with my head and makes fic-writing awkward. I don't even listen to interviews or visit actors' websites, and I avoid autograph lines and photo ops at cons. Yes, I'm weird. But I did listen to Katee's previous interview with those guys, and I got a kick out of her saying that she'd taken up knitting. For the hell of it, I went by the yarn store and bought her a skein and some needles, and I sent it to the Vancouver set. Felt like a complete goofball about it, and in my note I specifically said NO response was necessary, but here's my e-mail address in case she had any questions about the scarf pattern. I never do that sort of thing. That was two months ago, and I didn't think much of it; mostly, I just felt embarrassed by my dorkiness. ;)

Well. In the interview (timestamp 19:29), she says, "Someone just sent me a box of knitting stuff!"

EEK. That was ME! Okay, I still don't expect a reply or anything -- just hearing that she got the damn thing has made me a giggly, squeeful fangirl. And now I shall go back to keeping actors wholly separate from their characters... well, after I squee a bit more. :)

Fic: "Quadrille" (1/1)

This one's for leda13 and syliasyliasylia, who requested something along these lines when I asked for drabble ideas. :) Much love to indigo419 for insta-beta!

Title: "Quadrille"
Pairing: Kara/Lee
Spoilers: Through "The Eye of Jupiter"
Rating: NC-17
Words: 1,958
Summary: She thinks she should be sorry for how good that feels, how she'd promised to love another man for the rest of her life, but she can't apologize. She only knows that they're alive, that their faces aren't on a memorial wall yet, and that she can never, ever leave him again.

BSG fic: "Once Were Gods", by indigo419 and wisteria

While waiting for "Unfinished Business", indigo419 and I decided to amuse ourselves by writing our (dream) version of one of the key scenes. If you've seen the previews, you already know the spoilers herein; it doesn't reference anything beyond those. We did plot this before seeing them, so it has a few minor inconsistencies. This one's for elly427, in exchange for future favors. ;)

Title: "Once Were Gods"
Authors: indigo419 and wisteria
Pairing: Kara/Lee, others
Rating: PG-13
Spoilers: 3.09 (preview spoilers only)
Summary: But one look at that grin on her face, and he’s hopped up again on punches and sweat and the slick, familiar rush of her in his blood.

Rain = yay! Novell = frak!

Our Novell network here sucks in many profound, as-yet-unexplored ways. Among them: the way it keeps insisting I have "too many simultaneous logins", even though I'm only logged into ONE computer. Is one login too many? Are they trying to tell me something about my future here? Or are they just idiots who don't know how to manage the network situation with unreliable wifi for the laptops they bought us so that we could, y'know, log in and get work done! Sheesh. I can't do the curriculum stuff I wanted to do, but I can get online. So here I am. (On the plus side, we have no meetings during Planning today for the first time in weeks. Whee!)

I am apparently the only one not all a'flutter over the new shirtless Jamie photos. Hyooge muscles aren't my thing at all. John Krasinski is much more my style, and definitely Jamie when he's not in Lee mode. Hey, indigo419! The third Adama brother also made the list. (I don't see the resemblance, but Indi insists. He's still cute, though. :)

Right now, the steady rain and gloomy darkness are making me very happy. Yay, rain! Also, the kids are being pretty darn awesome; my first two classes' Power Point presentations were really great! Thanks again to all of you who helped with the international compare/contrast thing!

So, what's making y'all happy today?

Fic: "subtraction/addition" (1/1)

This weekend, I've been a bit obsessed with The Rift, so of course I couldn't resist writing about it. I do so love my pilots when they're angsty and complicated and at odds with each other.

Title: "subtraction/addition"
Rating: R
Pairing: Kara/Lee
Spoilers: Through "Torn"
Summary: One breakup and four reconciliations.

Numbered lists are fun, no?

1. Last night I downloaded the new version of Firefox. Collapse )

2. Salon interviews Barbara Kopple, who directed the new Dixie Chicks movie, "Shut Up & Sing". I'm not really a Chicks fan, but I really respect them. The interview's an interesting read, both because of the group and what she says about our current political culture.

3. Speaking of politics... while I adore Barack Obama to pieces, I'm iffy about his possible presidential run. It feels a little bit too soon in his career, even if I think he'd be an amazing leader. But this article on Slate made me reassess some of my assumptions about his potential success. Collapse )

4. Girls sent home for wearing Captain Underpants costumes: Here's where my liberalism clashes with being a public school teacher. Collapse )

5. On a positive educational note, today's AJC has a really neat story about a high school football standout who's also a cheerleader. He's being offered scholarships in both sports. I really like that he's not at all self-conscious about it; while cheerleading is very athletic these days, male competitors can often face some really unfortunate stigmatism.

6. I didn't go to work today because of a doctor's appointment, so I had my students answer some questions (good, in-depth ones!) about this cool article, "The Sound and the Fury of Diwali". I am SO JEALOUS of my sister, who's visiting Chennai right now for the first time with her Indian-born husband. Lucky! On the plus side, she promised to bring me some colorful saris. :)

7. I've complained about the "vanity sizing" that many stores have adopted. Newsweek has a scary/amusing article on the advent of less-than-zero sizes. Ah, manipulation.

8. Collapse )

9. leda13 has another marvelous BSG episode review of "Exodus II". Tons better than the one Jacob posted at TWOP today. I'd expected him to go on and on about an episode he said he loved, but this one read like a just-the-facts recap. I agree with some of the snark from his detractors, but I really enjoy reading huge essays about my shows, even if I disagree with some of the analysis.

10. Now that we're a month into the new TV season, I thought I'd do an update of my pre-season poll. Collapse )
