Yes, Jamie not only wore the dragon pants, but he also wore flip-flops! Alas, they were not green. And guess what, dionusia? SCRUFF! Lots and lots of scruff that he kept thoughtfully stroking during the panel! His hair's also a good inch longer now, which suits me just fine. Unfortunately, the first panel sucked. D*C always starts off with "Star Trek vs. the New BSG", which means they get eleven(!) people up there onstage, none of whom really get a chance to talk. Plus, this time they had Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden, and Jonathan Frakes up there for Trek, and they had plenty to say on their own. (Would've been quite interesting if I were into Trek.) Poor Jamie looked bored out of his mind, not that I blame him one bit. He obviously wanted to talk lots, but he only managed to get in one answer; on the plus side, he vocab-dropped "zeitgeist" and "capering", which set off the English major in me. ;) We also got some hardcore Jamie/Aaron flirtation, including some slashy bits that involved playing footsie. I didn't get any photos, but hopefully someone else documented the dragon pants and flip-flops for posterity.
After work, I headed down to the hotel to pick up elly427. We went to pick up our badges then balked at the ridiculous line. Headed back to her hotel room, where we got text messages from indigo419 informing us that her flight was delayed two hours. Ouch. I had the
I woke up on the wrong side of the bed; I've never been a morning person, anyway, and I was extra-grouchy today. Standing alone in the registration line for an hour didn't help (Indi and Elly were in the pre-reg line, while I was stuck in the Ticketmaster one.) Then I came home to take a shower and change clothes, and to deal with some dentist-related things before going back downtown.
We went directly to the ballrooms for the Q&A, staking out seats an hour early. Got to see asta77 again, which is always lovely. While we waited, I chattered nonstop as usual -- those of you who know me are aware that I will not shut up; I swear, one of these days my snark is going to get me punched in the face! It was fun, though, and the dragon pants made it all even more hilarious.
Post-panel, we walked to Corner Bakery for lunch. It's the best-kept-secret at D*C. Great sandwiches, and hardly any crowds. If you're there this weekend, Corner Bakery is directly across from the Hyatt's motor lobby -- look for the black and white awning in the office building. We had lunch with ebneter, greycoupon, and trinnifer, with whom I spent most of the time talking about school stuff. After that, Elly, Indi, Grey, and I did the Walk of Fame. We didn't approach Jamie, but we did spy on him; I was appalled/delighted that he appeared to be wearing platform flip-flops (he's a tiny thing!), but they turned out to be regular ones. Alas. Perhaps tomorrow I'll get up the nerve to actually go shake his hand or whatever.
Next was a quick tour of the dealer rooms (hi, telaryn, for the fifth year in a row!), and a nap in Elly's hotel room. We then met Grey, Ebneter, zorb, and a bunch of other friends for Grey's birthday dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. My burger had two hairs in it!!! I sent it back, and the replacement arrived after everyone else had finished. You'd think that HRC would comp it, right? Nope. Bastards. I still have the to-go container, but who wants a soggy burger and fries? Hmph.
Elly, Indi, Zorb, and I went back to Elly's hotel room, where we talked for another hour or so, but we were obviously all exhausted. Dragon*Con is basically one massive geek party with a guest list of 25,000, but we're not exactly party animals. So I drove home, and here I am. I should really do some cleaning because the plan is to come back here for BSG marathoning and general fangirling after tomorrow's panels, but right now I'm feeling lazy and might just curl up in bed. ;)
And thus concludes Day 1!
