Finally, we come to an end. God, I hate typing that. This fic has always been about canon, though, so this has to be the conclusion.

I told some of you that I might consider continuing it after the series is over, and that's still a possibility. I have some plot bunnies bouncing around in my head, and if they play out the way I hope, the story will go AU after chapter nineteen and become my traditional Big Summer Epic. I'm still very much in the planning stage, but stay tuned in a few weeks or so. :)

Thank you so very much to everyone who has been following this story throughout season five of Angel. I treasure all the feedback, and I'm glad that it made many of you happy! It has certainly been a delight to write. And if you'd like to catch up on all the previous chapters, you can find them here.

Spike –

Yeah, like I'm going to sit around and do nothing. C'mon, apocalypses are FUN! Okay, maybe not, but I'm itching for a good fight. People here are way too polite about them.

Oh, I didn't tell you about Dawn! She got accepted into a summer program at one of the art institutes affiliated with the Vatican! Okay, her doing the religious art history thing is totally weird, but she's really into it so I pretty much have to be all supportive and stuff. Willow's coming for a visit next week. That should be uncomfy, to say the least, what with her and Kennedy being on the outs. Still, it'll be cool to see old friends.

In case you can't tell, I'm totally ignoring all the stuff you said about maybe dying tomorrow.

Except I'm actually sitting here with tears running down my face, which is crazy because you're not upset, so why should I be? God, I can't deal with this, but if I've learned anything over the past year, it's that you have to deal with stuff or else you'll miss out on all the *good* until it's too late. You taught me that.

So I'm just going to say it, okay?

I'm so proud of you, Spike. There you are, fighting the good fight because it's the right thing to do. Like Angel, yeah, but different. You've come so far from who you were when I first met you. I hope you're happy about that, because I am. You're amazing. Everything about you is dear to me. I'm so glad to have known you. No matter what happens tonight, I'll be with you in spirit.

But if you screw up and get yourself dusted, I'll come over there and kick your ass!

I love you, in every possible way.

Buffy.

Oh, love, you didn't have to say all that, but I thank you for it. Means the world to me, it does, and you know how proud I am of you. Such a glorious woman, you are, and I'm glad that you're happy now.

Had to take a moment to write you back before I go upstairs and meet the others for some ass-kicking. No point in being worried about it. We have to go out there and do what needs to be done. You taught me that.

Bloody brilliant day, this was. Went to a bar and said some poems, and they liked them. One bastard even gave me a business card in case I wanted to get published. Isn't much of an option for me now, but the thought is nice all the same. I wrote a poem about you too. Not ready to tell you about it yet, but maybe I will if we make it through this mess.

Time's up for me here. Hope to talk to you later, pet.

As you said, I love you in every possible way.

Yours,
Spike.

Spike? Are you there? Nobody's answering the phones.

Please, PLEASE call to let me know everything's all right.
