Christmas knitting FTW.

I'm finally finished with Christmas knitting! A few minutes ago, I completed the big fancy gift I'm giving my mother. Since I was a kid, she has collected Nativity scenes, even though we're not a particularly religious family. She has over 50 from all over the world, displayed in a fancy cabinet that my father put in when they remodeled. I found a pattern online, and I decided that would be a gift she would *love*. So, yeah. I leave for Dallas tomorrow night. I'm looking forward to it, as I could definitely use some cuddling from my nephew, the most adorable toddler in the world. The last few weeks have been pretty rough, but things are getting better -- which is definitely a relief. I usually don't get the holiday blahs quite this badly! Salon had an interesting article about it yesterday, and one paragraph really caught my attention. Collapse )

Vacation is quite nice, though! While I finished the knitting today, I tried to keep my feet warm (today's high was 31, which is very rare for Atlanta), and I had CNN on in the background. The "experts" always amuse me. Why do the women on these shows always have big hair and un-ironic retro fashion? They seem like intelligent women and often have interesting things to say, but I have no idea why so many of them look so tacky.

I also got a smile from Kenneth from 30 Rock's holiday greetings.

I still haven't heard back from the cat-sitter (upstairs neighbor) after leaving a note on her door last night asking if she's available while I'm gone. So I guess I'm off to knock on her door and confirm; hopefully she can still do it, because I have no idea who else around here can check in on him every other day! I also need to get takeout for dinner (one of the strange side effects of my malaise is that I have almost no appetite, but I'm starting to feel a bit weak now) and go by Publix to get cat food and litter. Fun. Maybe while I'm out I'll swing by Burger King and pick up some BK Flame cologne for stocking stuffers -- now my loved ones can smell like burgers!

P.S. Apropos of nothing, I find the slang word "nom" rather silly.
