Writing it all out.

While I enjoyed last night's How I Met Your Mother, I have a brief quibble with one of the plot points. Collapse )

I've discovered that when I'm working on a story, I write much faster longhand -- too many distractions on my laptop. Handwriting's quite fascinating, and I like looking at how other people write. For the heck of it, I thought I'd take a photo of something I've written, then see if any of you want to post pics of your own handwriting. Collapse )

Otherwise, not much going on here. I've been in a bit of a funk lately, and I'm horribly behind on comments. I'm sorry about that. In the meantime, here are some links:

-- Slate explains how bloggers make money. Since I'm into dialects, I also liked their (completely non-partisan) article explaining the origins of Sarah Palin's accent.
-- Education Week has a great editorial on NCLB and how to measure accountability.
-- I'm fascinated by Project Bueller, an attempt to recreate the parade scene from the movie.
-- Jezebel has an ode to spinsters as role models, then is frustrated by earnest fumbling manchildren in movies.
-- Turns out Nick from TAR13 is into musical theater!
-- Ooh, adorable kitties!
-- The GWU student paper has a fascinating interview with Rainn Wilson on feminism, social justice, and his Baha'i faith.
-- Mental Floss tells how Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner" helped invent the MP3.
-- It's time to celebrate Banned Books Week.
-- PopWatch asks which shows you're "emotionally attached" to.
-- And for more 30 Rock fabulousness while we wait for October 30th, check out a clip of their live reading last year.
