It's a motherbleepin' walk-off!

1. All those icons of Katee's model face last weekend made me laugh, so today I watched Zoolander for the first time. I remember the bad reviews. While it's not amazing, it was funnier than I'd expected. The scene at the gas station with Wham! made me howl with laughter. Also, the walk-off made me appreciate Daniel V's snark in S2 of Project Runway. ;)

2. Right now I'm watching women's gymnastics. They just showed Nadia Comaneci, and wow, she looks gorgeous. I went over to Getty to find a photo, but no dice. They did have these beautiful shots of the women competing. And while I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, several of the Chinese girls do look so much younger than 16. I can understand why the physical demands of the sport mean that men are at their peak in their early 20s (god, some of those muscles yesterday!) and women peak in their mid-teens, but I'm still uncomfortable by how young so many of them are.

3. Also, while United Airlines' "Rhapsody in Blue" commercials are artistic and beautiful, they're very creepy.

4. Last night I scrolled through Cake Wrecks, a blog devoted to horrors in pastry decorating. All the entries are hilarious, and this one is just ... wow.

5. Atlanta folks, leave early for your morning commute, because school starts tomorrow! Yeah, I know it's early compared to everywhere else, but I prefer this schedule. By April, I'm desperate for summer to start, so I like having the school year end by Memorial Day. I guess I'm just used to it because I've been starting in August all the way back to my high school days in Texas. Waiting until Labor Day sounds bizarre to me. ;)

I think I'm ready. The classroom's all set up, lesson plans have been written, and my co-teacher seems like she'll be great. This is my 12th year of teaching (yikes!), so I know what to expect. Still, good vibes would be dearly appreciated!
