I really, really like(d) Rory. As I said in my last post, he is goofy but not stupid, and he's very likeable. (Yes, I'm going to use present-tense verbs.) Great character and perfect for Amy. I refuse to believe that he could just be erased out of existence because of a totally cliched last-minute appearance by a vengeful villain. Not to mention how they already "killed" him two weeks ago. This has to be a sign that there's a big reset coming. Bring it on.
I've been a big fan of Moffatt since Coupling, and I loved his pre-S5 episodes, including the library arc. While this season has been okay, it should be much better than that. He's done some great work with Eleven, and Amy is endearing almost in spite of herself. I'm not thrilled, though, by how often she's been in danger, especially the scenes where she's tied up. I haven't paid enough attention over the years to tell if this is just the way things go with the Companions, but it's not sitting well with me. (Not to mention how Nazreen essentially sacrifices herself to be with her True Love.)
Plus, this two-parter was boring. Too many cliches, and the staging just wasn't interesting enough to overcome the weak script. I'm not ready to write off the season, but I'm really hoping things turn around soon -- and that all my frustrations are for nought.
