Fic: Home; Zach/Shaun, Shelter
The plotbunnies just keep on coming and I can't stop them! I just love these characters so damn much.
Here's a real sappy one, hope you like it!

Title: Home
Author: uptight_
Pairing: Zach/Shaun
Rating: G - pure fluff. If you're looking for porn this is not the fic for you
Summary: Post-movie; Zach reflects over a painting he just finished as part of a school assignment
Warnings: English is not my native language, so please excuse any errors

“It’s true what they say: love does turn you into a real sap,” Zach thinks to himself as he adds one last stroke of red with the brush to his piece.

He sighs contently as he takes a step back to review the painting, letting his eyes adjust to the distance. The red almost seems to burn his eyes, and he blinks to rid himself of that sensation; he has been working on that painting for too long without taking a break and his eyes are tired.

He tilts his head slightly, squinting, taking in the colors, the shapes, the flow, the textures, before finally considering himself done and ready to step out of his creative trance to return to the outside world.

Suddenly, he is reminded of his professor’s last words before leaving the students to start on the assignment: “Always remember to ask yourselves this: what feelings does the piece convey?”

Zach closes his eyes, resting them for a brief moment before opening them quickly in an attempt to overwhelm himself with the immediate impressions of the painting.

He lets his eyes wander over the once blank canvas that is now filled with vibrant colors, emotions, life. He inhales deeply as he focuses on absorbing everything he sees, allowing it to take over his body and his soul, the dominant reds tugging at his heartstrings.

The darkness and the angst that used to permeate his work are long gone; left are only the burning colors of a sun disappearing slowly behind the horizon, contrasting against the silhouettes of three people admiring the spectacular sight. The painting captures the last moments of the sun’s presence before night takes over, and the magic of the sun leaving a bright trail behind in the water as if to invite the spectators to follow it to the other side of the horizon.

Content, calm, joy, safety – love. The feelings wash over Zach at once, and he allows himself to dwell in them for a while, the colors coming to life, playing out in front of him to the rhythm of his own heartbeat.

The two taller people in the painting hold each other tightly around the waist, as if it were the most natural thing in the world, yet they do so with such intensity that it seems as though they were afraid to let go. The shortest of the three, a child, is seen standing on the left side of the two men, holding the person in the middle by the hand – but the little boy is not looking at the sun like the other two.

He is gazing up at the two men embracing each other, and despite the three people constituting mere silhouettes against the burning sun, the smile on the boy’s face is unmistakable.

Zach’s heart can bear no more, and he closes his teary eyes, a smile on his face.

When the professor had given the students the assignment, there had been no doubt as to what he was going to paint. Already with the clichéd image clear in his head – he had cursed himself silently for having turned into such a hopeless romantic – he had simply let his hand follow his mind’s lead.

He had shared countless sunsets with Shaun and Cody, but the California beach sunset setting was a mere coincidence.

Anywhere he had been, was, and would go – as long as it was with the two people he loved the most in the world – would be exactly what the assignment had said.

Oh! This one is even more gorgeous than the first. You painted the scene so perfectly with your words; I could completely imagine Zach in this situation. Beautiful work! ;-)
