AN: I'm on crack. Don't know how Jack got there, but hey, doesn't really matter, does it?
Sure, the gunfire was heavy and there were more on the shooting side than the defending. Jack was no stranger to that. What was strange was the company he seemed to be in and the location as well. But there wasn't enough time to think about that while bullets were mere inches above his head.
"We're not going to last much longer, Mal. We've got to get better cover now. Get on a com to your pilot. We're heading for the south-east quadrant of this damn town as soon as Jayne can get us some cover with those grenades."
Mal gave him a look before crouching next to the woman who seemed to be cutting down the other forces with vicious efficiency.
"How we doin' with gettin' Wash out here, Zoe?"
"Not too well, sir. Radio's still out, but the south-east is our best course of action."
Ripping the useless headphone out of his right ear and cocking his gun, he returned to the firefight.
Jack sighed. Yup, just a regular day.
