It's That Time Again

Pesach is nearly here! You know what that means. Yes, time to write another chapter in the reknown Balofsky tradition of Pesach Songwriting.

In past years we have been known to spoof Sloop John B, Hotel California, This is Halloween, the Llama Song, and more!

Links to past years stuff:

This year from a wide range of candidates we are proud to present to you:

Pesach Song 5766
To: Time Warp
By: Avri & Lorien Balofsky

Aaron:
It's astounding
Time for cleaning
Madness takes its toll
But search carefully

Miriam:
We don't have very much longer

Aaron:
I've got to find it all
I remember cleaning for Pesach
Scrubbing my floors when
My Yetzer would scream to me ( Alt. - Chana would scream to me)

Yetzer Harah:
Relax and watch TV! (Alt. - Come and watch TV!)

Aaron:
No!
I have to clean for Pesach again!
Let's clean for Pesach again!

Narrator:
It's just a sweep from the left

All:
And dustpan to the right

Narrator:
Now gather the chametz

All:
And set it alight
But it's all that scrubbin'
That really drives you insane.
Let's clean for Pesach again!
Let's clean for Pesach again!

Miriam:
We're so weary, oh Moshe please free me.
Will Pharaoh set us free? No, not at all.
But now let us mention, G-d pays attention.
Omnipotent, he sees all.

Aaron:
When a bit of the plagues hit.

Miriam:
We were out of the mud pits.

Aaron:
And nothing would ever be the same.

Miriam:
We escaped from their kingdom

Aaron:
And now we celebrate freedom

All:
When we clean for Pesach again!
Let's clean for Pesach again!

Moshe:
Well I was walking to Egypt, on a mission I guess
With a snake from my staff, and G-d's power abreast
I said let us go, it took him by surprise
These are G-d's people, and He's heard their cries
Pharoh stared at me, and his heart went hard.
But we left Egypt all empty and scarred.

All:
So,
Let's clean for Pesach again!
Let's clean for Pesach again!

Narrator:
It's just a sweep from the left

All:
And dustpan to the right

Narrator:
Now gather the chametz

All:
And set it alight
But it's all that scrubbin'
That really drives you insane.
Let's clean for Pesach again!
Let's clean for Pesach again!

Other candidates for spoofing were:

"I'll be there for you" - The Rembrandts.
- So no one told you you were going to be a slave / Your life's a joke, back's broke, and freedom you crave...

Bohemian Rhapsody (again) - Queen
This song begs to be done, but it hard to get it right. (I will not let you go / Let us go!)

One Tin Soldier
-- Listen People to this story / That it happened long ago / About two nations down in Egypt / Israel enslaved to Pharoh...

Cats in the Cradle - Harry Chapin

Moshe was born just the other day
Came into the world in an unusual way
In a basket of reeds he was sent away
for his safe return we all did pray
Soon he was prince and as he grew
He'd say I'm going to free the Jews, yeah. You know I'm going to free the Jews.

With Dam Sphardaya Kinim Arov,
Dever Schin Barad and more,
Arbeh Choshech Makat Bechorot,
Makat Bechorot, yeah.
You know it was Makat Bechorot.

Plague number 10 just hit the other day,
As we went out of Egypt we just to say
Thank you G-d for making us free
and taking us out of our slavery
(Stuck here for now)

and a few others...
<hr>
Last but not least the entries from the rest of my family so far:
Here's my Mom's work:

Tune: Leavin’ on a Jet Plane
Words: R. Zimberg

All my bags are packed
I’m ready to go.
Standin’ here beside my door
I’m so glad to finally say “goodbye”.
Well the dawn is breakin’
It’s early morn,
Moshe’s waiting
He’s blowing his “horn”
Already I’m so grateful I could fly.

CHORUS: With an outstretched arm and a strong hand
We’re going to the Promised land.
Moshe Rabbenu will lead the way.

There’ll be no more slavery.
For now at last, we’ll all be free.
Baruch Hashem, it’s time for us to go.
Leave behind the sorrow and woe
Leave behind evil Paraoh,
To Eretz Yisrael it’s time to go!

CHORUS

And my brother has put forth a strong entry this year with a take on Great Big Sea's "Black Rum"
You can find his work on his own LJ here.

And happy birthday to monenigme =]
