alphabet addendum, & a quick Whoverse comment

Addendum to my alphabet ficlet meme post: I'll take up to two claims for each letter, so even if you see a letter taken that you really, really want, go ahead and put in a request.

Up to two per person, so if you only requested one and want to snag a second, go for it.

And if any of you want to use Doctor Who or Torchwood requests for any of these, I wouldn't object to that at all. Just nothing related to "Utopia"/ "Sound of Drums"/ "Last of the Time Lords" or "End of Days," because even though I'm semi-spoiled, I don't want to try to tackle any of that until I've seen it firsthand.

On that topic, a general, and non-spoilery, thought about Who and Torchwood, and their respective narratives, that I've been considering for the past few days:

Doctor Who is about how we go through the process of losing things. (And for things, read people, or worlds, or ourselves, as much as objects.)

Torchwood is about what happens after they're lost.

various Whoverse forays

Okay, so aside from working on fic (got bit by out-of-the-blue idea today and managed to make good headway on it, which is awesome), I need to write up posts on "Human Nature"/"Family of Blood," "Blink," and "Day One."

Brief comment on "Blink": OMG so fucking SCARY. You people were not exaggerating; that shit is messed up. I about tried to claw my way under the couch when Collapse )

Brief comment on "Tooth & Claw," which I watched about half of earlier:

I am really, really feeling this urge to write Torchwood fic now, and I really, really need to be talked out of that. Because a) I do not have enough time for that, and b) it would be hard and scary and complex, and I have no faith at all that I would be able to pull it off if I were to try.

But, um, did I mention how much it appeals to my narrative kinks? Like, all of them? Yeah.

random acts of glee

Trailer for An Accidental Husband, starring Uma Thurman and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

Not at all the kind of movie I usually go for, but Thurman and JDM are both hot hot hot like hot things. (We've already documented my fondness for JDM, and I am head over heels for Uma -- in Kill Bill in particular, but she's just really awesome in general.)

And in the trailer JDM is amused and cranky and snarky and a firefighter, and he grabs Uma and throws her up against the wall of an elevator, and they start kissing the hell out of each other.

Therefore: made of win!

I'm writing again (I think), which is also made of win. Possibly. I have a couple of smaller pieces in progress, in addition to the bigger, long-term projects I'm always working on.

"Family of Blood" tonight, so I'm planning to do a combined review of that and "Human Nature" once I've watched them both, and then maybe I can start plowing through the S1 marathon I recorded last weekend.

And there's just ONE DAY LEFT until Torchwood and S2!

fandom(s) ahoy!

karaokegal is hosting her annual Come As You're Not fanfic costume party for Halloween.

From her invitation:

I’m inviting you all to write a fanfic as someone other than yourselves.

Costume examples:
If you’re known for linear narrative, go poetic and out of sequence.

Are you a fluff-bunny? Write angst. (And if you're known for developing hives at the hint of fluff, take a few Benedryl and write some.)

You can read more about it, and/or RSVP, here.

This isn't an official ficathon, challenge, or fic exchange; it's just something fun for Halloween, a way to try something fictionally that you've never done before, that you never dreamed you would do.

It's my first year participating, and I have no idea if I can pull something off or not, but it's going to be fun; at the very least, I plan to enjoy reading everyone else's contributions.

It doesn't matter if you're on karaokegal's flist or not. She's asked everyone to pimp far and wide, and you should go read the post and take a shot at it if you feel at all inclined to give this a try.

3 DAYS UNTIL TORCHWOOD AND DOCTOR WHO S2 ON BBC-A OMG!

Good lord. I'm not usually so capslocky. And I never use multiple exclamation points (see current mood). Just look at what Whoverse fandom is doing to me.

Also, 3 weeks until CSI:NY S4. Yes, I'm excited about that, too. But NY is my longterm relationship, fandom-wise. We're good with each other. We know all the secrets, mundane or otherwise.

Who and Torchwood are my shiny new crushes, offering to buy me dinner and drinks and complimenting my boobs shirt, and, in the case of Torchwood, batting their eyelashes enticingly and bombarding me with cheesy yet charming pick-up lines.

(To wit, at least as I imagine it: "Nice shoes. Wanna fuck?" C'mon, Captain Jack so would.)
