Writer's Blocks

Haven't done these in a long time so I figure I would do some!

What is the first line of your favorite book?

OK, the first sentence actually is a full paragraph long so will only type out a bit (like it's difficult to guess!)

"Mrs Rachel Lynde lived just where the Avonlea main road dipped down into a little hollow, fringed with alders and ladies' eardrops and traversed by a brook that had its source away back in the woods of the old Cuthbert place..."

What other foreign languages do you know? Which one(s) do you want to learn?

I can speak/understand Mandarin. Not great but I can get by. My reading of French is pretty basic.

Which ones I want to learn? So many! Would love to be fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish and Italian. Those would all come in handy.

If you had the option to learn the exact moment and details of your death, would you choose to know?

What fictional television show would you want to live in? What character would you play?

The one that immediately comes to mind is Stars Hollow (Gilmore Girls). I dunno what character though... maybe just an employee at Lorelai's inn? Or I can be the accountant for Lorelai's inn and Luke's Diner, etc and know everyone's secrets LOL

packing is boring

Aside from sleeping and being awake, what is the longest consecutive amount of time you've spent doing one thing? What was it?

I think the winner would be on my flight from Taiwan to Vancouver - approx 10 hours? - I spent at least half of that time playing Zuma. We left around midnight Taiwan time, the entire plane was fast asleep except for me, playing that damn game.

Due to Passover, my office is closed for the next two days. What does that mean? Trip to NYC with Rina!

If I had known about Darren + The Warblers performing at The Today Show tomorrow morning, I would've seriously contemplated flying into NYC tonight, be an obsessed fan & go to the studio LOL

I am so unbelievably spoiled for the next couple episodes of Glee but have somehow managed to stay pretty much spoiler free regarding Doctor Who. Thank heavens both shows are back this week cause the hiatus was just awful.

OK off to bed as it'll be an early morning tomorrow. Will try and leave NYC purse-free unlike the last time haha.

Writer's Block: No reservations required

If you could go out to dinner with a character from a current TV show, who would you choose, and why?

I know me saying Blaine isn't a surprise for any of you :D Although, I have to admit I would rather have dinner with Darren than Blaine. I would also prefer Chris over Kurt too. So for actual characters:

Neal Caffrey, White Collar. Just to watch him con our way into a fancy restaurant and get our entire meal comped.

The Doctor. But dinner has to be on some exotic planet.

Marshall, HIMYM. Just because I think he's adorable & my favourite character.

Chuck Bartowski.

You can't take that away from me!

If you had to go an entire week without TV, music, or your mobile phone, which would you choose, and why?

Oh this is so easy -- mobile phone. I wish I could get rid of it right now.

Confession: You know TV Guide cover contest that's going on? I've been voting for Chuck, not SPN *sheepish grin*. Also, I have not watched the last 3 SPN episodes -- the Bobby one, the audio was out of sync so I switched off the tv; saw the beginning of the Twihard one but something distracted me and I never finished it; and totally forgot last Friday. All are on the computer so need to catch up before I fall too far behind. Just realized will be missing this week's episode too!

Writer's Block: Open book test

Based on the books on your bookshelf, what conclusions would people draw about you?

That I have either have way too much (a) disposable income and/or (b) time due to the sheer volume.

That I like things organized but am still kinda messy -- my books are currently grouped in categories like a bookstore (adult fiction, romance, youth, horror, gay fiction etc). They used be in alphabetical order too (by author's name then in order which the books were published) but when the volume got too much, that went out the window.

That I'm reliving my youth or something due to the amount of children/teen books. The 20 beanie babies hanging on the shelves doesn't help either.

That I am forgetful -- I have more than 1 copy of a few books cause (a) I forgot I owned them in the first place and then (b) I forgot to return them.

That I prefer to live in a fantasy land. All my books are fiction.

Writer's Block: Please don't call it a comeback

Which famous or infamous historical person would you bring back to life, and why?

Going through some of the answers, many picked past presidents, authors like Austen & Shakespeare. Jesus, of course, is a popular answer. My choice probably won't fall in the "historical person" category but whatever. I chose River Phoenix.

I don't remember exactly where I was when I heard about River's death but I do remember it was my freshman year in university. I've seen most of his films and was a fan but I wasn't an uberfan. His work did not change or impact my life in any profound way. And yet, of all the celebrity deaths, his death affected me the most. I can't really say why. Maybe because he was the first celebrity crush I lost.

I wonder how his career would've turned out if he had lived. Would he have become a respected mainstream actor like DiCaprio? Or maybe jump between mainstream and more obscure films like Depp? Would he have gone down the Downey route -- respected actor dealing with drugs but ultimately comes out trimphant? Or would he have faded away from Hollywood and went to live on a commune? Or, horror of horrors, would he have become a D-lister trying to regain what he had as a teenager and making appearances on The Two Coreys?

What would Joaquin be like today if his brother lived?

Writer's Block: Vampires, again?

Is there a TV show that everyone around you watches that you really don't get or like? If so, what is it? To what do you ascribe the odd fascination?

Sex and the City. Never got this. Didn't like any of the characters.

True Blood. I tried but 2 episodes in, I gave up. Not even the promise of more nekkid Jason Stackhouse could keep my interest.

Mad Men. So utterly boring. Sorry MM fans. And Jon Hamm is not that great looking.

Grey's Anatomy. Enjoyed the first season but about halfway through the 2nd season, I wanted Meredith to DIAF.

American Idol and Dancing With the Stars.

There's many more but I'll stop there :)

Writer's Block: Where I want to be

What was your childhood dream? Did you ever accomplish it?

I wanted to be a marine biologist basically cause I wanted to swim with dolphins all day. Cause that's what marine biologists do, right? :) Hopefully some day I will actually swim with the dolphins.

One childhood dream that did come true: meeting the New Kids. Only took 20 years and a chunk of change but it happened!

Dear LJ, please don't fill in my tags for me. I can do that on my own. Thanks for changing the homepage back though. Much appreciated.

Writer's Block: Secret song

What's the most embarrassing CD or track in your music library? How often do you listen to it? Do you share it with your friends or keep it to yourself?

My first writer's block :) Most embarrassing CD? You guys do know me, right? I own every single CD by Backstreet Boys and Westlife. The boyband craze continues with New Kids, Boyzone & Take That. Lots of musicals. Almost every CD released by contestants on Canadian Idol and tv rips of their performances.

I admit to d/l'g the Pussycat Dolls and Britney.

Ricky Martin and Marc Anthony. Oh the shame lol. IIRC, I used to have Enrique but I sold it haha.

CDs by Canadian pop acts like Wave, B4-4, Sky, VIP & The Moffatts (but only their last CD which was much more "mature" lol).

And of course, most recently, Justin Beiber.

OMG I just remembered *pulls out CD from bottom of the pile*. I have the Booty Call soundtrack because BSB has a single on it. I've never even seen the movie! I don't think I've listened to the entire thing. Back in 1997 when one couldn't just download the one song you wanted. At least I bought the CD used, think I only paid like $5 for it.
