my ears are bleeding

During the 1 hour commute home this afternoon, I was subjected to 4 songs over and over...

(1)  Deja Vu - Beyonce
(2) Sexyback - Justin Timberlake
(3) Buttons - Pussycat Dolls
(4) Stars Are Blind - Paris Hilton

Needless to say, I wanted to rip that car radio right out.  The thing is, I can't stand NOT listening to music but every time I switched stations... ARGH!!!

PCD and PH are just bad, no surprise there.  Today was the first time hearing "Sexyback".  Never been a big JT fan but his songs were OK-ish.  "Sexyback" is HORRIBLE.  His voice was protooled to death and it sounded like it was the same 2 lines repeated over and over and over...  No hook as I can't even remember how the song goes even after hearing it about 5 times already!  "Deja Vu"  *shudders*  Beyonce sounds like a cat dying.  The oh-so-original-let's-add-in-a-rap-in-the-middle was... I can't express how bad it is.  He used the same rhyme 2-3 times in a 1-minute rap.

Other songs I was subjected to:

-- "Ain't No Another Man", Christina Aguilera.  Like her 'n all but the song just grates on my nerves
-- that stupid new song by Jessica Simpson.  I don't know the name and let's hope it stays that way
-- "Promiscuous", Nelly Furtado.  Big fan of Nelly.  Own all her CDs, including Loose, but holy crap do I hate this song.  And watching her perform this song is cringe-worthy.  Girl needs to learn different dance moves other than jutting out her hips and touching her hair a bazillion times
-- "Crazy", Gnarls Barkley.  Decent song but overplay much?

I need to make some mixed CDs for the car.

family pride

My cousin, Bob Chiu, just had an article written about his subway sketch group in the Globe & Mail.  So cool.

I'm also putting the article behind the cut just in case the link doesn't work / expires.

Just received an e-mail that a friend is pregnant and is expected to deliver in late Nov / early Dec.  This is friend #4 that's pregnant.  It's like a baby boom!

OMG I purchased 7 books today.  Damn those Chapters sales!! I really should start, ya know, reading.  I have books 10+ years old that I still haven't read.

Had a great time Saturday night with 11 fellow crazy Kalan fans.  The gathering was in honour of a Winnipegger visiting TO.  The food was yummy, the weather was beautiful, the company was most excellent and, to top it all off, there was a violinist who knew how to play Nature Boy!

For the past month or so, I've been hearing / reading a lot about this huge phenomenon in the US called High School Musical.  It's an original Disney movie, it's a musical, it's spawned a whole bunch of singles that hit the Billboard charts and it's the biggest thing at the moment in the tween market (9-14 year old).  I heard "musical" and my curiousity got the best of me cause I love musicals.  It's out on DVD so I picked up a bootleg copy.   The storyline is filled with every cliche imaginable.  It's squeaky clean (not surprising cause it's a Disney production).  The songs are pure bubblegum.  And I really liked it.  Which kinda scares me considering the target audience is the same one that catapulted Hilary Duff & Lindsay Lohan to celebrity status.

Lately, I've been in the mood to find some "new" artists to listen to so I've been visiting libraries like crazy and borrowing CDs.   Artists I'm starting to listen to include Morrissey, Kathleen Edwards, Sarah Harmer, Ron Sexsmith & Rufus Wainwright.  Anyone have further suggestions?

bloody hell

Fucking Fox cancelled Arrested Development. The bastards. OK, it's really the public at large who didn't watch the most brilliant show on television who's at fault but I still haven't forgiven them for cancelling Firefly.  More evidence of Fox's suckage.  Postponing the remaining 9 or so episodes of Prison Break to be aired after 24's season is over.  Can they not find another suitable timeslot instead of making us wait over 4 months?

In other fandom news (since I'm updating)...

Hanson was brilliant.  Had an awesome time with a great group of people.  I've watched their Underneath Acoustic Live DVD about 3 times now.  Definitely prefer them in an acoustic setting.

TAR is a black hole of boredom this season.  I'm watching the prettiness on Supernatural from now on.

Serenity is set for DVD release in December.  I know nia_starr shares my anxious-ness in seeing the deleted Mal/Inara scenes.  It's all about Cap'n Tight Pants, right?  *grins*

I just purchased a whole bunch of CDs recently.  Death Cab for Cutie and Keane, both of whom I enjoy.  Also purchased Metric and Postal Service, songs unheard.  I do know Postal Service is lead by the same guy in Death Cab so good chance I'll enjoy it.  I've only read about Metric and how it's one of those great Canadian indie bands that people should pay attention to.  Found Emm Gryner in an used CD store and ended up loving it.  Jack Johnson's CD is totally enjoyable but, on the whole, is too laid back for me.  Also picked up the latest Franz Ferdinand and now contemplating on purchasing their first album.  Robbie Williams new CD is great as usual.  Thanks to a friend sending mp3s my way, I've been listening to the new Westlife which I'll be purchasing once it's released here (I can't completely give up on boybands).

Looking forward to attending a Leafs game with lady_caitie   My second game evah!!  *very excited*

And in my ongoing saga of "How Many Concerts Can I Attend in One Year", I can now add Jann Arden to the list along with Hanson.  Jann sounded absolutely amazing and was incredibly funny which makes for an interesting experience -- being treated to hilarious stories between self-described depressing songs.  Also, it was a nice change of pace to attend a concert where the audience sits and enjoys the show without the high-pitched squeeling.  Next up -- Barenaked Ladies.
