mega post

I have this thing where I think of something to post but then I don't and I was too lazy to post my Winnipeg pictures last week so the result is one big giant post. Sorry! *sheepish grin*

~~ Chuck finale. How awesome was that?! The kick ass gene really does run in the Bartowski family -- go Ellie! Routh as evil!Shaw was so good. He needs to play bad more. Jeffster's "Blaze of Glory" was epic and the video was so awesomely bad LOL And unlike another tv show *cough*Supernatural*cough* when Chuck sets up a showdown fight, it actually delivers. Chuck's "I just needed to reboot" was brilliant!

~~ Watched the 24 finale while in Winnipeg. Didn't catch all of it as I was moving stuff out of my brother's apartment but I did see the final minutes between Jack and Chloe. Very well done.

~~ Glee. How brilliant was Bad Romance? LOVED IT. Santana KILLED it and Quinn was gorgeous in her outfit, although those eyelashes look super annoying to wear. Burt continues to be The Best Father Ever. The TWOP gang continues to beat the dead horse that is (a) whether or not Burt was justified in how he treated Finn; (b) Finn's motivation behind his rant; (c) whether or not Kurt received any fallout blah blah blabbity blah for 50+ pages. My Glee music post has been updated here. Only 2 more eps left :(

~~ Somebody somehow found Jared & Genevieve's wedding pictures online. I admit to feeling a bit uncomfortable/stalkerish watching the slideshow but not enough to stop me from screencapping a good portion of the pictures.

~~ I finally relented and turned on the AC this afternoon.

~~ bauersgirl, Anj & I will be visiting the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in November. I'm super excited about this! I believe Anj timed it so we'll be there when the next movie is released. I can't wait to try butterbeer!! Speaking of HP, I never posted my HP exhibit pictures here! Pictures were strictly forbidden but I had to sneak some shots! I only got about 10 pictures but if you're interested, you can check them out over at my facebook.

~~ I really would love to go see Broadway Bares once. Looks like it happens every year in June. I'm thinking next year. Who wants to come with? Even if one doesn't want to see BB, a weekend in NYC is always fun.

~~ Oh Winnipeg, you sure are... flat LOL We had gorgeous weather while we there. It did rain on the night of Victoria Day so no fireworks but that's ok. On the Tuesday, we experienced some major wind action, wow. OK, pictures!

You know it gets cold in Winnipeg when you see (a) electrical outlets in public parking lots for engine heaters and (b) a lot of the bus shelters are enclosed and supply heat.

My brother in his natural habitat LOL

FYI, years back, there was a series of commercials called "Heritage Moments" that depicted certain historical events in Canada's history.

Heritage Moment #1: This is the only known oil painting of Winnie the Pooh by the original illustrator. When it went on auction in London, a group of Winnipeggers was able to purchase the painting. It currently hangs in a gallery in Assiniboine Park.

The Forks. Marketplace & historical site. This is where the Assiniboine and Red Rivers meet. The early Aboriginal peoples used this area as a meeting place and when the Europeans came, it was used for trading, railway pioneers and thousands of immigrants passed through on their way west. Hence the nickname for Winnipeg is Gateway to the West.

^^ There were about 7 of these in a semi-circle and each one helps you locate a different constellation. On certain nights of the year, the main stars will appear in the circles. Cool idea.

Heritage Moment #2. Statue commemorating the Chinese railway workers. The inscription, which is hard to read, says, "On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the 1947 repeal of the Chinese Exclusion Act, this sculpture is dedicated to the memory of the thousands of Chinese railway workers who laboured, often under the most difficult conditions, to complete the construction of the Canadian Pacific Railway through the Rocky Mountains."

St Boniface Church and Louis Riel. The church was lost in a fire and only the facade remains. Louis Riel, considered to be the founder of Manitoba, leader of the Metis, led 2 resistance movements and executed on the charge of high treason, is buried here.

The Legislative Building

Heritage Moment #3: Valour Road.

And that's it! I never know if I blab too much when I do my travel pictures but I figure some information is nice instead of just throwing pictures up.

Winnipeg is quite pretty in the summer, lots of greenery. Wouldn't want to experience the winter though.

I had a good laugh over the fact that it sort of becomes Supernaturalesque pictures of Jared and Jensen for a second or two in the slideshow. Super cute though, and I liked her dress! They look happy :) I still wish he'd married Sandy though.

I know I was looking for Jensen in the pics! The height difference is quite amusing though.

Wonderful pics.

I haven't really enjoyed this season of 24 except for a couple of moments, one of them being that last scene between Jack and Chloe.

I tried watching 24 but I've realized shows that feature continuous stories like that (ie Lost) are just not for me. Half the time, I forget what happened the week before and too many characters confuses me LOL

OK with the commentary :)

Yeah, the main reason for the family visiting Winnipeg was to help move their stuff back to Toronto. He finishes school in June.

He must have just started dental school when we met. I feel like he's been in school ever since I've known you. That's cool that he's moving back! This is the bro married to Pearl? Right? Will they be living close to you or your folks?

How did I not know you didn't actually really watch???

Had to work out the dates but he was in his last year of dentistry when we met in 2005 (has it only been 5 years? I feel like I've known you for much longer!). He worked for 2 years before going back to school for specialization. And yep, this is the married brother. For the time being, Andy & Pearl will be living with my parents. They haven't settled their work stuff yet. Once that's done, they'll start looking for a place.

What? 24? I tried that one year, with TerrorMom. Just didn't stick.

It does feel so much longer, doesn't it? We've crammed a lot of memories into those 5 short years!

I just now realized you all have A names too! :)

BAD ROMANCE WAS FREAKIN' FANTASTIC. Seriously, I've made, like, three different people watch it. And Burt's dad is my hero. :D

Glad to have you back in town! I thought of you earlier this week when I saw a killer shot of Jake Gyllenhaal (sp?) on the cover of Metro.

I'm kinda on the fence on the last episode of Glee... mainly, what bothers me is that it was basically a Very Special Episode, when it was completely unnecessary. The show already had one main character who is gay and still loved by his friends and accepted by his father, and another main character who was raised by two gay dads who gave her everything she ever needed, and was shown to be completely happy with her complete family life. I think that sent the message more clearly than any speech by an outraged father ever could.

Moreover, it bugged me when Rachel said something about "the childhood [she] was deprived of." WHATTTTT. All indicators show that her dads always doted on her and gave her everything she ever needed or wanted, so her saying that because neither of them is female, she didn't have a happy childhood, to me does more damage than any use of the f-word by Finn. It's not like there's a void left by a deceased parent, as in Finn's case; she has two loving parents.

And the thing with the dress made me cringe. Quinn somehow put together an AMAZING FREAKING OUTFIT even though her parents threw her out, so just because her dads can't sew, Rachel has to staple together a bunch of stuffed toys and she "Really needs a mom?" Her dads can afford to just BUY HER SOMETHING or commission something from a tailor/seamstress.

I do LOVE the Idina Menzel plotline, though, so the Poker Face number and scene redeemed the episode like whoa for me. I was also really happy about what Shelby told her, about how she has all those happy memories from growing up with her dads - that also really helped. I hope Rachel is done with the "childhood I never had" dramatics after that.

(Don't get me wrong, I feel for her - she's what, 15? I understand that a girl that age wants her mom. But still, something about the whole storyline played out didn't sit right with me until it was resolved.)

Also, episode redeemed by Tina threatening the principal, and that ending scene with Finn in a shower curtain ("Is he wearing a red rubber dress or am I tripping?" LOLLL). And the full shot of the whole Glee Club in their Gaga outfits standing behind Kurt. They looked AMAZING.

I've read similar takes as yours but I didn't see it that way. Unlike Finn who knows his father is dead and has a mother who talks about him, Rachel has always known her mother was out there but had no information. Not to nitpick, but she says "a childhood I was deprived of" and she was, deprived of a childhood with a mother. Also, it should be taken into account that this happens after she finally meets her mother and it doesn't go very well. This does not mean that her childhood was unhappy, nothing on the show has pointed to that. And I liked the fact that even though her dads can't sew, they improvised and made her the costume that she wanted.

But do they have a 630 ft tall Arch?? :)

I don't think you blab too much either. I like some explanation with photos of things I know nothing about. It seems like a really great trip and an interesting place. I like the constellation finders.
