The plan for this week.

1) Avoid G20 insanity like the Plague....okay maybe not the plague because if that's what it was i would probably go have a look
2) Work like nobody's business today and get a good solid start on one of my essays
3) Work in the  morning tomorrow, afternoon/evening with Matt at museums
4) work hard friday morning/afternoon, go out friday night
5) catch 8:30 train to Bournemouth on Saturday feeling content with the amount of work i have gotten done.

Dear Columbia University - You Fail at Life.
<3 Shara

In their proposed 197-c expansion of their northern campus, Columbia wants to bulldoze 18 acres of Harlem to expand it's campus. A lot of the hooplah over the expansion is coming from the local community board, who are arguing against displacing the residents that currently live there, which is funny as their plan - 197-a - *also* displaces said residents. For the most part, i could care less about either plan, what does catch my eye is part of Columbia's plans for their expansion.

Namely - a Level 3 Biolab, out of 4 levels. Level three hazards include, but are not limited to: Anthrax, BSE, mumps, West Nile virus, SARS, smallpox, tuberculosis, typhus, and Yellow fever.

I'm sorry..WHAT? You want to put that kind of lab in NEW YORK CITY? Are you fecking crazy? Come on you morons...lets be real here. That's just dumb. (And yet Boston University is getting away with a level 4 lab downtown - Bolivian fever, Dengue fever, Marburg virus, Ebola, Hanta virus, Lassa virus, and other various hemorrhagic diseases. etc)

Additionally, as far as i can gather, the facility will be underground, almost directly on top of a fault line, and below the water table...MMMMMM can we say vulnerable?

I understand that everyone wants a shmancy bio lab, but really now. That's just dumb.
