Where am I going, where have I been?

It's been a busy two weeks. World Fantasy was... well, World Fantasy. We caught up with a lot of overseas friends, and had some good conversations and so forth (though many of them were shouted, due to the noise level in the bar). We took suricattus to the Lanes' Armoury (the marquis' favourite place to shop) and she *may* have forgiven us. After WFC, we had two sets of visitors -- first of all the lovely calendula_witch and the equally lovely Mark Ferrari, and then Mr and Mrs Chaz -- desperance and klwilliams. We did touristy things, and hung out with passing friends and drank thing and ate things, and I made scones(and disagreed with Chaz on how to pronounce them) and altogether had a splendid time and Serious Fun. (Apart from the washing machine breaking down and Horus getting into a fight and needing stitches -- he's doing well and is very smug because he is getting tuna [containing his antibiotic] twice a day. But these were blips in the Fun.)

And tomorrow, the marquis and I are off to Japan. I'm looking forward to it, and will try and to update here on what we do. I'm packed (with considerable help from Ish) and now wondering what I've forgotten (last time, it was handcream).

Finally -- and this is the embarrassing bit, I have been invited to be guest of honour at next year's Novacon. It's a huge honour and I am both delighted and astonished to have been asked.
How is everyone in lj land?

I hope you have fun in Japan, and congrats on the GoH! I have a feeling that it will be 2014 before I see you in the war room, though. Speaking of 2014, are you still going to Finncon? I might try to be there, if I have the money. :).

And GOH, whoo!
I'll hopefully see you at a con next year, though it won't be Novacon...

I'm very glad that Ish is being helpful. I'm far more glad, however, that you are GoH at Novacon - they are obviously wise people.

Have you been to Japan before? Do you need my amazingly strange tips? It's a long time since I've visited Japan, to be honest, and my Japanese was ever small and is now almost non-existent, but I visited a bunch of friends there and they showed me a bunch of less-overseas-tourist places, some of which might be of interest to you (the medieval town that specialises in fine carved lacquer, for instance, and has an amazing temple complex). Hoy me if you want my rather dated suggestions or my very odd food advice.

And, in Japan, you are a mere 8 hours from me. If you get bored...

I hope your flight to Japan takes you over the North Pole. I did that once, when dawn was breaking over the ice and the pilot took us down low, so we could see the blue veins of water. If it does, make sure you get a window seat, for it's a once-in-a-lifetime thing.

... and previous reply now held for moderation since my cookie got lost on the way to Hong Kong.

Or it's gawping at the view. That's a seriously tall building opposite us. Nearly half a km.

We are well pleased you are GoH at Novacon - we are already signed up, of course.

We are all well and getting over a 4 weekend run of commitments round busy work weeks.

Hoping to post something this weekend. LJ continues to come and go, but there is still nowhere else I'd rather be.

Take care, and have a great time in Japan.

Japan is on my list of 'really would like to visit but not quite enough to put it on the top of the list' places. Really looking forward to hearing about it via you.

I've only been to Novacon a couple of times, I might have to go back again. Great news on your GoH-ness!

Also it's nice to hear that one of you or Chaz (presumably) pronounces 'scone' in the way that I approve of, I don't think I want to know which of you it is though as then I would have to be slightly sad at the other one. At school we just used to call those things 'elephants' to ward of the inevitable wars over pronunciation.

Have fun in Japan and congrats on the GoH. Shame not to have seen you at Novacon this time round - this year was particularly good one, very laid back (in a good way). They had a good committee. We should catch up when you come back.

Very pleased about the Novacon news - I'm really looking forward to next year. I haven't seen you for ages! We went to Petra and I do keep meaning to post my trip diary, when I finish writing it. Anyway, have a lovely time in Japan, and we'll see you when you get back.
