Purloined Marquis Shock!

Reports have reached this office of the theft of The Marquis earlier today from Marquis Towers. An Evil Power (TM)(Mrs) is believed to be behind this outrage. The Marquis was last seen been escorted to a Sinister Dark Vehicle headed for a location referred to only as 'Heathrow'. A source close to The Evil Power (TM)(Mrs) suggest that this theft may last for as long as a week and that during that time The Marquis may be shipped to A Foreign Destination. Sources close to the marquise tell us that she is 'underwhelmed', 'fretting', and, most tellingly 'late with our breakfast.

The marquis' employers have elected to send him to Nagoya for a week. It's a long way from those areas of Japan effected by the earthquake and tsunami (and, indeed, the power station). It's been on again off again on again all week, which has been somewhat stressful, but despite their country (let's call it A) deciding to remove their own citizens from the whole of Japan, his immediate bosses are happy, it seems, for him to go. (Their bosses, who are in a more sensible country, are recommending avoiding areas of Japan that are affected by the earthquake damage and where there are food and power shortages.)
I'm pretty convinced he'll be safe. Part of me is slightly startled that [Company Name Redacted], who he's going to see, still want foreigners turning up for a business meeting when arguably resources might be better directed elsewhere for a while. But economic life goes on. I'm not impressed by his colleague from country A who has dropped out using the circumstances and potential danger as an excuse (though coming, as he does, from the country that's consumed itself out of iodine tablets in the last week, this is perhaps understandable). But I never like it when he's away for this sort of length of time. I miss him and the house feels weird.
The cats are pointing out that they are still here and that the effect on them is far greater. Play Human is away. The standard of Play they'll receive for the next week will be grossly inadequate.

I know nothing about why the Company is sending the Marquis to Japan, but it seems a bit bonkers to me, in the circumstances. Probably there is nothing to worry about, but in your place I would nevertheless be worried.

I'm sure he'll be fine, but I don't blame you a bit for fretting. Shout if you need extra support!!

I shall definitely be lighting ...let's see...green, I think, Candles to request the successful completion of the Marquis' work in dangerous country and his safe return to said strange company that sends its employees to dangerous country.

And multo hugs to you and all the kitties.

Weird to consider sending foreigners into a country as stressed out as Japan, but he should be fine--even if there are aftershocks, their buildings are built to the strictest codes in the world, and no doubt he'll be far from potential tsunami action. Also, I'm hoping that our news vultures glomming onto Libya for their blood means the power station situation is relatively stable.

The UK press are pretty positive. But, as you say, it seems like an odd time for business trips. It was arranged 2 months ago, but I was expecting it to get reorganised, I must admit.

He should be fine. Remember that the reason A is removing all its citizens is because if it didn't tell them to leave and something bad happened to them, they'd sue. :-) I'm sorry you'll be stuck as sole cat wrangler for the week, though.

Oh, la! The poor cats! And the poor marquis, who is surely going to be very tired of people fluttering at him over this excursion. And poor you, left alone to cope with importunate felines (Jemmy offered to send them tips on how to get the most fun out of a single human, but I told him I thought your three had that covered.) I hope the trip goes well, with no unseemly air travel contretemps, and minimal airport stress. That country you're thinking of? Lot of highly anxious, neurotic people there. I'm just sayin', is all.

I do understand the anxiety. One of my exes was like that over Chernobyl.

It's somewhat strange to be sending someone into an area where they are likely to be in the way even if they're not actively in danger. :-/

My Japanese friend had her flight back to Japan delayed for a bit when the earthquake and tsunami first hit. However, she eventually got there safely and hasn't reported any more problems arising (in her area) since.

As you say, odd to send someone who may get in the way. Strange things, multinationals.
