The inevitable question

So: World Fantasy con.
What do I *wear*?
(I'm not staying in the con hotel, and the marquis can't come, so complicated things and things that are heavy to carry around are out. No corsets and certainly no rubber dress.) I have heard rumours of disapproval of weird clothes. Sound I be super-good (and very not me) and cross-dress wear conventional clothes (I think I may have some works things left over)? Do I need to go and buy a knee-length tweed skirt and a blouse with a bow? (The answer to that is no. I wouldn't wear them.)
And -- and this is important -- I have no idea what kind of weather to expect. I mean, here in Cambridge it's currently damp and cold, and I've moved into long sleeves, jumpers and thick tights. But do I need t-shirts? Bare legs? Thin tights? (No, not stockings. No. They itch.) Do I simply shadow desperance and live in black jeans and tops? (I lack an appropriate hat, alas.) Do I wear a sack and pretend to be someone else?
Clothes are not easy, let me tell you.

(Skirt of the day: black flouncey).
