Honk! Fest

I'm back from Honk! Fest

It was an amazing experience.  We performed 3 times in 2 days (two 1-hour sets and a parade of ~2 miles), danced the nights away (and surely suffered partial hearing loss) at late-night jams, mingled/listened to/played with lots of the other fun bands.  Honk! brought together 25 bands from all over the US and even from other countries (Chaotic Insurrection Ensemble from Montreal and Titubanda from Rome, Italy).  One of my personal favorites was the MarchFourth Marching Band - a professional circus troupe big band in a class of its own.  I came to both of their shows and danced my little heart out in the big outdoor crowd.  Then one of their stilt walkers "danced" with me and gave me a sticker with their logo.  What more could a 5-year-old  a 29-year-old anyone want to forget about everything for a few moments and experience pure happiness?

Scene of the Crime Rovers stood out among the other groups with our improvisational pieces and attracted some new fans.  One of them is syarzhuk - check out his post here and enjoy the silliest photo of the weekend.

On Monday I had to go back to work.  It was difficult, and not just because I needed more sleep and relief for my very sore body.  I so wanted to continue replaying the many moments of this adventurous weekend and continue to hear the brass bands in my head.  At the same time I had no choice but to get dressed for work, get in the car, drive to the office, and get back to whatever it is that I get paid to do all day.  It was a contradictory and almost painful experience.

Now that I wrote this post I feel a little bit better.

I can't wait until our next show.
