In any case, Keith Olbermann has more balls than virtually every other American TV news journalist combined. I don't agree completely with his politics, but one can only imagine the cojones necessary to say something like this on fucking MSNBC.

I'll bet there's an equally acerbic O'Reilly response out there, but I can't watch Bill O'Reilly for more than two minutes before foaming at the mouth.

Don't read the comments for that video, by the way. The ignorance of both sides is astounding. We are truly a country that values opinions more than the knowledge necessary to have them.

Because journalists who do this who aren't Keith Olbermann get fired.

Can't say ESPN isn't good for something.

His first big break was on ESPN as one of those football guys.

His rhetoric is fascinating: very studied, in a mostly-dead style from earlier in the 20th century (all the way down to the very unsubtle Edward R. Murrow sign-offs). It drapes itself in patriotism, something a lot of leftists have forgotten. I wish there were more rhetoricians like that.

Agreed. It's not so much what he says that impresses me as the way he says it. Much more powerful than I'd expect from a guy who broke into newscasting as a sports commentator.

Frequently he'll refer to Murrow by name. He's not cribbing from him, so much as being very frank about his idolization of him. There was a Special Comment from early in September (which I've posted here) in which KO is very up-front about his Murrow love.

I truly admire Olbermann for everything he does and the true Class with which he does it.

It's not the country that values opinions more than knowledge, it's the Internet.

This is the second or third video I've seen on youtube from olbermann. He's got a sharp tongue, but he's a patriot and just wants what's best for people. I really respect him. He irritates me, but I still respect him. (Then again, most conservative commentators annoy me, too.)

Olbermann is a jewel. I sincerely hope he goes down in history as one of the greatest newsmen today. He is a throwback to the days of Journalists-as-Honest-Men, as Guides. I love it.
