Current Music: Golden Boy Feat. Miss Kitten - Rippin Kittin
Ah, LJ. When I can't write, I write here. :b

Over the course of 24 hours I've heard two different guys with acoustic guitars play Elliot Smith. Neither was particularly good, but the second time around the coincidence was strong enough to give me pause. The first one was at a tiny soundstage at Del Monte Square, performing a censored, overzealous rendition of "Say Yes" to a smattering of uninterested restaurant-goers. The other one was a dude sitting outside a bakery/cafe/ice cream parlor, and he was singing a wildly off-key "Between the Bars." I know it's trite to say this, but Elliot Smith didn't kill himself--in each person to whom his music spoke, he lives.

I was walking in Golden Gate Park the other day, and the sprinklers came on, and suddenly this tiny golden retriever came out of nowhere and leapt into the spray, and I was moved to poetry. (Goooooth!)

Sprinklers in Golden Gate Park

Nozzles pop
from the dusk-
singed lawn
and explode.

Amidst the mist, the spray
of dew, the trails
of peacock foam:

a dog, lumbering wet,
tongue draped stupidly
over jowls.

If this is America
I'm in love.

Sorry, the imagery is too pleasant to be goth. If it was a cute zombie dog and blood sprinklers or something, then maybe. Then again, I don't really know what I'm talking about; I just like the thought of a cute zombie dog running through sprinklers and just generally being happy. Cute poem, though.

Music by Nirvana seems to be the same as that Eliot Smith's: it LIVES! Umm, who is Eliot Smith?

I really like the sound of, "Amidst the mist." I also especially enjoy the image of, "The trails of peacock foam." They are very fresh. But how is any of it goth?

In that I'm spontaneously writing poetry on LJ.
