Future Past: a funny, wistful, and slightly bitter look at what the past thought the present would be like, with lots of silly illustrations. Extremely fascinating. I honestly can't tell if the author is a young snark from our era or a bitterly nostalgic seventy-year-old--he talks of the Future That Should Have Been with the familiarity of someone who was there when it was still the Future That Was Going To Be, but he makes well-informed references to reality television and modern movies, and he even uses the modern version of the Dr. Who logo at one point.

Humanity, I'm disappointed in you! It's almost 2010! To hell with e-commerce and digital cameras; I should be posting this entry from the moon! On my rocket-powered skateboard! While having my robot servants make chocolate chip cookies out of plastic wrap and liquid nitrogen!

On a related note, Jonathan Coulton's "The Future Soon" (listen for free) so needs to be the soundtrack to a crappy YouTube music video about Deus Ex (or anything that has to do with bionic augmentation).

Last week I left a note on Laura’s desk

Turns out she’s smarter than I thought she was
