Though I'm sad my character is dead (how was I supposed to know that attacking a cockatrice while polymorphed into a silver dragon or other bitey creature turns you to stone?), I'm consoled by the discovery that I am the best nethack player in the OCCS community. By almost a quarter million points.

BOO. FUCKING. YAH.

I have to admit, though, that I got this far more out of dumb luck than good playing. And not the "good luck" intrinsic--though I had a fair bit of that for a while--but luck as in, "holy shit, I can't believe that didn't kill me." I had starting or middle-level equipment for most of the lower levels, and most of it was burnt or rusted to crap by the time I got to Hell. I threw away my cursed boots of levitation before it was time to cross the moat at the Castle (very bad idea), I pissed off my god at some point by praying too much, I wasted two wishes from a wand of wishing, I lost all my gold sitting on a throne, and I nearly died of food poisoning at least four times. I did manage to kill Medusa by blinding myself with a camera flash, though. (She can't instantly turn you to stone if you can't see her.) That was pretty funny.

Thank you, fellow computer science majors, for playing as wizards and dying a lot between dungeon level 10 and 20. I wouldn't have made it nearly this far if it wasn't for the cloaks of magic resistance I filched from your putrid, rotting corpses. ^_^

Any challengers to the title? mvomacka? hcurtis? nferrera?

Gahhh, mind flayers. My first genocide choice.

Vals are awesome, yeah. I have the most fun with dual-wielding Samurai, but I have trouble keeping them alive. And Tourists are just fun to play.

Two words: Master Thief. Grin.

Yeah, uncursed scrolls of genocide are very specific.

Race you to ascension.

Oh man, Valkyrie + 25 strength + Mjollnir = ass kicking machine. You know you can kill yourself that way if you smack into walls, right? Happened to me once. Newton's Third Law is a harsh mistress.

Heh. I usually skip the barbarian quest if I have a luckstone and some way to get levitation, since the Heart of Ahriman really isn't worth the risk.

How far down have you gone?

Highest you can get without gauntlets of power is 18/**. Not sure if that's higher or lower than 25. The spoilers aren't very enlightening on this subject.

Heh. I think I may have gone deeper than you. I didn't clean out the castle, though--no levitation. I had to swim across the moat and pray I didn't drown. :[

Floating eyes aren't really worth spending a genocide on, IMO. They're not that hard to avoid--just hard to see (ironically), because they're dark blue on black. The only situations in which I can imagine that being a problem are a) you're blind (which eating a floating eye should take care of), or b) you're hallucinating, in which case you just got screwed over. But I feel your pain. Floating eyes are the reason why I don't play nethack late at night.

Plus, by late game you will likely have reflection. And floating eyes hate reflection.

Black dragons, though--euch. Disintegration resistance is hard to come by unless you kill and eat another black dragon. Does reflection work against their breath weapon? I've never tried.

Very obscure thing I learned: polymorphing a crocodile corpse will always give you fireproof +0 high boots.

Hmm...master liches are more common than archliches, yet almost as dangerous, so I usually go for those instead. My genocide choices are otherwise identical to yours.

I'm tempted to say demons (to make Gehennom much easier), but that would get dull pretty fast. Probably black dragons? I rarely get to genocide more than one monster, so I've never had to make that choice.

Interesting. I imagine she must be a really ugly Valkyrie, though.

Also.
