Agrajagagrag, the chaotic human male Barbarian, quit at the Castle (dungeon level 23). 158300 points, which is, if I remember right, just barely enough to land me the #1 spot on the OCCS nethack high score list. Or would have been, if said high score list hadn't been wiped.

I don't know whether to be really happy or really sad.

But oh man, that was one hell of a game. I didn't have any exceptional equipment except a bag of holding, an amulet of ESP, an uncursed luckstone, and the +1 blessed rustproof Cleaver, but I had the good fortune to find two leprechaun halls, which netted me about 5,000 gold each. Successfully killing a shopkeeper at around level 18 or so almost got me killed, but earned me another 3,000--which, along with a few really lucky gold finds, brought me up to a total of over 23,000 before I quit. And I got all the gems at the bottom of the Gnomish Mines identified, which saved me a lot of carry weight by allowing me to throw away over 30 worthless pieces of glass. I also just happened to find both an altar to my character's god and an icebox full of fresh, sacrifice-worthy corpses in the Gnomish Mall, which got me very close to being crowned. (I got a divine gift, but it was Sting. Argh!) I would have kept going had I not missed the Quest and gotten overpowered by a giant-summoning Titan.

Ascension cannot be far off!

(If you have no idea what I'm going on about, try it yourself here. Be warned; it may very well be the most addictive computer game ever coded.)

You should try this game. You would love it. It implements d20 and then some.

From the nethack website:

"Thank you for the latest release of gradewrecker. My GPA just went in the corner and shot itself."

It was part of the big game wipe.

It was totally unnecessary.

Well, all these non-CS majors kept coming into the labs and playing Battlefield 1942, and things were really getting out of hand. People were finding it difficult to do CS work because there were people playing games all the time. The end result was that everything had to be wiped--Quake III, UT, Battlefield, Warcraft III, you name it. Nethack remained on the local machines but was wiped from OCCS for some reason. Even megatron (which no one ever plays) is gone.

The same thing has been happening with Warcraft III on a smaller scale, but as it hasn't been interfering with anyone's work lately. And Battlefield 2 has quietly made its way onto OCCS. So far CSMC doesn't believe it's a problem.

Oh man. I've been there.

At least you didn't get hit by a potion of paralysis while walking too close to the moat.

Or pray down to 1 HP and kick a wall (which I did for fun once).
