a volunteer is me

I leave for SIGGRAPH 2006 at Boston tomorrow! so excited so excited so not prepared but so excited aaargh

The vast majority of my time at the convention will be spent doing shifts in the performance area of the art gallery. They are all many hours long (I have three consecutive shifts on Tuesday and Wednesday each, which will have me working in the gallery without as much as a lunch break from 8 AM to 6 PM), so I can't swap them out for the sake of variety. I don't know whether that will be really awesome or really boring--I love 3D still art, but I'm not sure how I'd feel about standing around for ten hours straight making sure no one vandalizes any. There was a girl who wanted to switch out a shift at the animation theater on Wednesday, which got me all excited until I realized my Wednesday was booked solid from dawn to dusk. Argh.

I kind of envy her schedule, actually--almost every one of her shifts was at the animation theater. (I wouldn't mind spending 10 hours a day doing that--this is why.) She wanted to swap out a shift on Wednesday to go to a volunteer-only Disney talk--a popular event, apparently, as virtually all the other animators in our group were trying to get rid of their Wednesday shifts as well.

And hey, I can't complain too much. There will most likely be pretty pictures of this ilk, which anyone who knows me very well knows I like very much. I'll also be free to wander about on Sunday afternoon and all of Monday, which I intend to spend mostly going to volunteer-only career talks by folk from LucasArts, Midway Games, and the studio that did visual effects for Lord of the Rings and King Kong. *pumps fist*
