Mar. 18th, 2005 @ 02:06 pm kindergarten is useful in college
Terrible mnemonics I invented to help me remember stuff for the CS210 exam today:

(bitwise multiplication algorithm)

You & your left shift in,
you & your left shift out,
you & your left shift in and you add it all about
You do the hokey pokey and you turn the bits around
That's what it's all about!

(big/little-endian memory addressing)

Eight little seven little six little endians
Five little four little three little endians
Two little one little zero little endians
n little-endian bytes.

I think I may have just forfeited my life to live. ^_^

Is it wrong that my initial reaction to this was "Ha ha! Up yours, TAS!"

Ah, statutory rape. A weird thing when it's consensual.

What amuses me most is that the girl sent a letter to Bush. Yes, Bush--not her representing legislator, not Taiwanese president Chen Shui-bian, not the American pseudo-ambassador at the American Institute, but Bush. I cannot get over how hilariously TAS that is. That school's sense of self-importance has cemented its place in Taiwanese international school myth and legend. Oh no, my twelve-year-old daughter's fucking a seventeen-year-old--quick, call the President! We have money, we have diplomatic immunity--we own this island! He's got to listen to us!

Man, this is almost as funny as TAS hiring armed guards after September 11. Yes, obviously a school full of snotty rich American schoolkids is the first thing a terrorist would attack in Taiwan--never mind the fact that the American Institute is just down the street.

Also kind of interesting that the insularity that leads to this kind of thing at TAS leads to an environment at NEHS where couples don't kiss.
