I like having time to read.

I hope this lasts.

Feb. 8th, 2005 @ 08:21 pm i love metal gear solid
True to my roots as a retrogamer, I never played the original Metal Gear Solid until sometime last week. I've been hooked on it ever since, though. The story is wonderful, the voice acting is so good it's easy to forget the game is Japanese, and the boss battles...oh, the boss battles. They were making boss battles far more epic when the first Metal Gear came out in the '80s, but these...oh man. The boss battles in MGS are in a class of their own.

For example, when I was fighting master psychic and telekinesist Psycho Mantis, the screen abruptly went black, the soundtrack halted, and the word "HIDEO" flickered in the corner of the screen in a blocky system font. What the hell? I put the controller down and leaned over to make sure I hadn't yanked the Playstation out of the video out ports, and suddenly the picture and sound were back and Psycho Mantis was shouting something along the lines of "Hahahaha! I control your television!"

Hideo Kojima, I adore you.
