Musings on Purpose

Tonight I had a pretty incredible experience and I realized that for a while now, I've known exactly where I was heading, but it's been uncomfortable for me to admit it, even to myself. For a long time, I tried to be what I thought everyone else wanted me to be (FYI - that didn't work out so hot), and getting past that has been a very long journey. I often find that I hold myself back for a long time due to fear of what people will think.

For a long time, the song Purpose from Avenue Q has really resonated - I felt like I had some greater purpose but what it was was just out of reach. I feel like I not only know what that purpose is now, but I'm finally at a place where I'm willing to accept that.

Extended ramblings on my purpose, what it is, and my journey with it to dateCollapse )

Happy Birthday!

Birthday wishes to goldenmist !!! Have a great day!

Someone at the NY Times is in trouble!!

The New York Times this morning announced that Florida beat Oklahoma 31 to 20.

What a typo that was!! The headline was about Florida beating Alabama. The article was about Florida beating Alabama. But the box score said Oklahoma, not Alabama

I don't know how widespread this was, but I do have my parents Sunday Times that was delivered to their house.

So my house is officially listed. Dad and I got everything as ready as we could. Then, yesterday while I was at work, my realtor came over and did some staging...ok some is a huge understatement. He got a little excited.

If you want to see my house, check out the link below - those of you who have been to my house will be shocked.

My House

Also - if you know anyone who wants a really good deal in one of Charlotte's really nice neighborhoods, let them know (I know, I just had to plug it).

Now we just need some one to come visit and decide they want it.

So tonight, we had Forever Tango at the theatre. I was a floor supervisor, which meant that I had to stay out in the lobby the whole show. I was a bit bummed, but it ended up working in my favor.

I got to learn how to tango from a 70ish year-old Argentinian man. His name was Oscar, he's the company manager and he performs in the show. He took turns teaching me and my house manager to dance.

It was so so so much fun. I need to take some classes or something!! I love that I get some fun experiences like that. Mom says that's my superpower - meeting random people in the theatre who do things like teach me tango, or take easter baskets to my mom.

After the last two weeks and the amount of shows I've ushered (not to mention my real job), I needed a break, so I took Friday off work and took myself on a mini-vacation.

I spent the weekend up in Asheville and it was so perfect. It was really exactly what I needed. I planned very few aspects of my trip, so in general I just went with the flow. That worked out really well.

I had a great hike, saw a very funny musical (The Great American Trailer Park Musical - not high art, but pretty over the top and funny), and had some great food.

If you ever come out to NC, you have to go to Asheville...it is such a great town.

Broadway Meme

Ok, this is a bastardization on the movie meme. I stole the idea from electrichobbit , but he suggested I do it first, so it all works out.

The rules:
1. Pick 15 of your favorite MUSICALS (Preferably Broadway, but I have one Off-Broadway).
2. Search your memory or play the soundtrack and pick a lyric, any lyric...try not to go too obscure
3. Post them here for everyone to guess
4. Fill in the musical and song title once it's guessed.
5. NO GOOGLING. Totally cheating, you dirty cheaters.

Just a note - I had so so so much fun with this. It was so tough picking just 15...I left a lot of musicals out. Most of the ones here have certain stories with them. i will give you one hint - there is nothing here from The Wedding Singer! If need to hear any of these, call me and I'll sing 'em to ya.  J/K

EDIT - [info]electrichobbit - feel free to go ahead and get the rest - I know you know all the ones that are left :-)

If you read romance novels...

I know that is a very small subset of people who read my journal, but I'm writing this anyway.

At my mothers recommendation, I just read The Spymaster's Lady by Joanna Bourne. This is her first novel and I was very impressed. Her use of prose is masterful and her character's are some of the best I've read in a long time (regardless of the genre).

Anyway, that's all. I could go on and on about this book, but I won't.
So I was taking random quizzes and I came across this one. Let's just say that my results were probably assisted by my job...well and that I know what nouns and verbs are.

Not a bad day anymore!

There is nothing like a good movie, a lovely meal, and wine, to make a bad couple of days become insignificant.

I'm about to start watching Hairsspray, I'm in warm flannel pajamas, I have a nice large glass of red wine, and steeak with blue cheese is cooking in the kitchen. What a lovely day!!

Oooh - Plus, it looks like a trip to New York City is in my future :-) More details to come later.
