So I watched The Jane Austen Book Club again, and it's official: I have a girlcrush on Emily Blunt. This means I must pull out The Devil Wears Prada yet again but somehow that's ok :D HAVE to see The Young Victoria!
I love at the end of TJABC that one of the guys suggests reading the Patrick O'Brien novels next. MUCH LOVE. What's funny about that is that I'm being a stickler for reading them in order, which means it's pretty much dumb luck whether the library has a copy in of the one I'm up to. I'm stuck on 'The Fortunes of War' I think.
Has anyone seen District 9 yet? Mixed reviews on Twitter I notice. But still want to see so hard!
So, finally, I am reading Twilight.
... yes, I know I'm about 2 years too late in terms of fandom, but I finally folded. I *HAD* to see what all the goddamn fuss was all about.
I'm about 10 chapters in. Must admit, it's got me interested. I wouldn't call it UN-PUT-DOWNABLE but I sure as hell was more looking forward to reading on the train this afternoon than usual.
I have a question - and yes, I know it's probably been over-analysed already, but it's new to me!
Is Bella a Mary-Sue?
She has quite a few of the inevitable characteristics. She's clumsy (so special!), ordinary-looking except also yet so indefinablt unique in some ways (glints of red in her hair!), independant, brave, intelligent, cool, loyal, knows her own mind... etc. etc. Oh, and she's the new girl in town who everyone flocks to because she so INTERESTING. (LOL. This makes me think of those thousands of Harry Potter Mary Sues that were always the New Girl at Hogwarts. Hee.) Pretty sure she's going to end up with the hero also (GASP).
And yet she lacks a few of the more extavagant feartures of the true MS. She doesn't have secret powers (so far, anyways... don't spoil me please. By by the gods, if she turns out to be physchic or telepathic or something I will laugh SO HARD), doesn't have violet/cerulean/sparkling emerald eyes or raven/honey/titian hair. So that's a plus.
Problem is, I can't decide if I like her yet. Hmmm....
What do you all think?
There definately needs to be more hours in the day. Preferrably a few more towards dawn, so I can get a few more hours of sleep every morning. I shall have to talk to God.
Am re-reading The Devil Wears Prada. This book makes me anxious and stressed just reading it. Thank heaven I don't have a boss like Miranda. The movie's out here soon, will be interesting to see how much they changed it.
