(no subject)

Anyone know Russian? [08 Mar 2006|09:26am]
In scanning LiveJournal pictures, I've noticed this bear appearing everywhere. Seems to be a popular Russian meme. Wish I knew what he's saying.
Here's a random pic I saved.
( Russian bear )

Ah ha! [10 Mar 2006|09:25am]
It seems the bear was created by John Lurie (of "Fishing With John" fame) and called "Bear Surprise." It was reportedly co-opted and posted by someone named Lobzz on a Russian web site and appeared saying "preved" to a couple. Preved is an intentional misspelling of Privet (hello). It's an internet thing, I think, like leet.
Medved (bear) has something to do with it too. And the people who form communities because they love this medved call themselves krosavchegi, which seems to be an intentional misspelling of uchasnegi (participants).
There's an LJ community http://community.livejournal.com/ru_preved/ of preved nuts.
I've also uncovered a love / hate relationship with the O Rly owl from the preved krosavchegi.
If you come across a young Russian and want to seem hip, say "preved" to them.
Apperantly, English isn't the only language being warped on the internet.

Whew [24 Mar 2006|05:35pm]
I must admit that my eyes are going a bit crossed from translating Russian and I believe all my dreams tonight will involve a bear saying preved. But it is really great to feel as if in some small way I might be making a difference in the world. Certainly the world is making a difference in me. ;) Too bad I'm not much of a writer--there's a book in here somewhere.

I hope the medved is blessing you all with preved.

Preved! [25 Mar 2006|04:28pm]
I am trying to read all your posts but there are only so many hours in the day! I reply when I can. Know that I am happy and I hope that you are all healthy and happy too. Thank you all. Preved!
