I cut and pasted the first part from the website, but be sure to click on the link to read the full rules and whatnot:

Also, the judge is Jennifer Laughran. Name sound familiar but you can't place it? That's because she's the agent of *ZOMG* Daniel Pinkwater *ZOMG*.

"Dear Lucky Agent" Contest:

Kids Novels (Middle Grade and Young Adult)

Welcome to the second "Dear Lucky Agent" Contest on the GLA blog. This will be a recurring online contest with agent judges and super-cool prizes. Here's the deal: With every contest, the details are essentially the same, but the niche itself changes—meaning each contest is focused around a specific category or two. So if you're writing a book-length kids novel, this second contest is for you!

HOW TO SUBMIT

E-mail entries to februaryagentcontest@gmail.com. Please paste everything. No attachments.

WHAT TO SUBMIT

The first 150-200 words of your unpublished, book-length work of middle grade or young adult fiction. You must include a contact e-mail address with your entry and use your real name. Also, submit the title of the work and a logline (one-sentence description of the work) with your entry.

Please note: To be eligible to submit, I ask that you do one of two things: 1) Mention and link to this contest twice through your social media - blogs, Twitter, Facebook; or 2) just mention this contest once and also add Guide to Literary Agents Blog (www.guidetoliteraryagents.com/blog) to your blogroll. When pasting text from a .doc file into the body of an email, save it as a .txt file *first*. It really saves most of the formatting. Dude, heed this advice.

It's funny... I did some "creative visualizations" about my story being accepted. Always, always... for some reason I saw myself sitting at my desk, wearing my black shorts, a patterned shirt, and a new pair of shoes that reflected the light from my ceiling fan. I bought new shoes today out of the utter necessity of a giant hole near the toe on the right foot. Payless varied the design of my usual pair of low "work shoes" to have five holes instead of four and to have a slight sheen instead of being matte. On the drive home, I felt like it was going to be in the mail... I mean, shit- I was wearing my black shorts, a patterned shirt, and shiny new shoes. My hair was down and it was hot outside. I was thirsty, but caffeine alert. My jumbo SASE was in the mailbox, wrapped in a taped plastic bag. I opened it while sitting at my desk. My manuscript was wrapped in a rubber-band and the first page was a letter. "Dear Writer, Please excuse the form letter...blahblah...blahhhhhblah... we are sorry... blabbityblah... Thank you for taking the time... Sincerely, The Editors." So Henry Holt & Co. rejected it, Hyperion rejected it a year ago (the contest with no winners)... I'm thinking of adding a chapter after Valentine's Day or maybe one before The Party. I don't want to go the e-publishing route for something so mainstream and G-rated, but would really like the story I finished the month I turned 27 to be in print before 30. My next step is to contact some of the folks listed in the SCBWI materials I have. The copyediting gig is going well, picked up part II of the materials today... but I'm doing that for advertising (not cash) and the notch on my resume. I interviewed a few hours ago for a part-time children's arts & crafts class instructor and think that went well, but haven't heard back yet.
