The cover and name of the third book in Suzanne Collins's Hunger Games trilogy. Okay, it's not like either is especially surprising, but still very cool news.

WTF, Interview With Terry Goodkind in USA Today

Helpful hint: bashing the genre in which you write is not a good idea.

Disclaimer: It's likely that some of you are friends with Terry Goodkind, or at least know him, and I do not personally know the guy. It's entirely possible that he's a nice person who simply did not interview well.

Rant: I saw this article due to a post by mylefteye, and became annoyed. Here's the main part that bothers me: "First of all, I don't write fantasy. I write stories that have important human themes. They have elements of romance, history, adventure, mystery and philosophy. Most fantasy is one-dimensional. It's either about magic or a world-building. I don't do either."

Here's the other thing: "The way I work is I write 12-14 hours a day, seven days a week..." versus, "I think writers are born, not made." Let's see, there's no connection between the first part and the second? Working 80-something hours a week at something doesn't... argh, WTF? WTF?

Project Book Babe

A lot of you know Faith, especially if you're local and/or a writer or reader of YA and middle reader books.

She's put on many author events and signings, and always has answers to the question, "I like (names of books/authors)... what new stuff should I read?"

She's now going through chemo and needs help. There's going to be an amazing event on April 4th, featuring some big name authors (including the author of the series that's making me re-think my choice of internet handle due to spammage... yes, Stephenie Meyers). If you're out-of-state, there's going to be an online auction and there's already a Paypal donate button.

"Dear Amazon.com Customer,

As someone who has purchased books by M. T. Anderson, you might like to know that Enterprise Planning and Development : small business and enterprise start-up survival and growth will be released in paperback soon. You can pre-order your copy by following the link below. "

Bwahahaha! This is funny to anyone who has read Thirsty (YA horror), Feed (YA SF), or any other M.T. Anderson books. The weird thing is that this business book actually sounds like something I'd check out from the library.

Tonight's new South Park made me laugh to the point where I had trouble breathing. "Daa-ad, Tom Cruise won't come out of the closet!" Tomorrow is my "Friday," so that's nice. I still haven't caught Mirrormask yet, and the new HP movie will be out soon, so let me know if any of you are planning on seeing either. Tomorrow, I'm registering for a leadership workshop conference thing (first weekend in December) that I'm really looking forward to attending. It'll be quite a networking event, so I'll be sure to stuff my pockets with business cards. :D If anyone wants to see Aeon Flux that weekend (at night), let me know so that we can plan it after showtimes are released. I just finished reading Scott Westerfield's Uglies, so tomorrow I'll pick up a copy of the sequel, Pretties. Any of you read them? It's YA dystopian sci-fi/adventure, has some edge-of-your-seat suspense, and believeable characters.
