This is a quick post to cover a couple things:

  • I am back from travelling the wilds with my eBFFs. I arrived safely in Canada a few hours ago now.
  • I am not particularly happy about this.
  • By that I mean it's possible I spent most of yesterday + today like

  • Anyway, I did have a great time! I will write a more detailed post probably when I am less full of pizza and jetlag.
  • But shout-out to mildlyconfused, erethesunrises and anythingbutgrey for meeting up with us and putting up with our tendency to travel in a large brigade and also my inability to write informative text messages on my 2003 phone. It was great to meet all of you!
  • I haven't caught up on any TV, which means I am well behind on Community, GOT and LOK. Please don't spoil me for any in the meantime! I'll catch up soon.
  • I hear LJ did something to the comments that made fandomsecrets flounce? I'm so not in the mood to deal with this shit, LJ.
  • Lastly [I hear there is thus rumour going around about DW 7x05.]"Susan Tyler"? LOL. Chances of this being true: approximately one in a billion. If this were true, chance that I would like it: 0.

So I think that covers most of it.

Yesterday firstofoct and I ended up watching Recovery, which was very good but not hilarious at all.

So I guess to compensate today shinyopals, spud14 and I watched SHARK ATTACK 3: MEGALODON with John Barrowman. Yes, that's the movie responsible for this gif:

AMAZING.

I am cutting this more for length than spoilers because I assume no one cares about Shark Attack 3 spoilers.Collapse )

So, the short version is that my trip was amazing and I desperately wish I had a TARDIS and could constantly revisit that particular two-week period over and over in a Moffat-style disregarding of timelines and universal laws. Now I am back in Canada and pretty sick and my sunburn is peeling and I am a hot mess who is significantly poorer than she was a couple weeks ago, but I REGRET NOTHING.

I arrived in Heathrow on the Thursday morning and met up with shinyopals and together we took the longest bus in the universe back to her city. Frances joined us in London the following Tuesday, and then on Thursday we met up with starlightmoonla and lorelaisquared and the five of us spent most of the rest of our time together. It was awesome, the bigger group meant lots of fun and lots of sub-groups splitting off.

Things I Did, in brief -- if you want more details and/or are going over there and want more opinions, just ask:Collapse )

I think that's about it for established events at like... particular tourist places. Obviously we also did things like "eat at pubs" and "walk around" and "have a picnic" and "watch Fright Night" that were a lot of fun. There was also that time I got my book signed, and that time a guy walked past me on the street and I nearly died of heart palpitations.

You may have noticed that I have barely mentioned Much Ado About Nothing in this post! That is because it is getting its own long-winded post. Get ready. In other theatre news, we also saw Mamma Mia (fun, but I was sitting next to two small children who fidgeted and were incredibly irritating the whole time) and Doctor FaustusCollapse )

Okay, this is already super long. See why Much Ado needs its own post?

I started writing a longer post but I'm borrowing lorelaisquared's computer so I will cut to the part that everyone here might actually care about: on Thursday we did the Doctor Who Experience and I took a billion pictures and then, and more importantly, we went to the stage door at Wyndhams. There were lots of people there and poor shinyopals and goldy_dollar were too short to push through but I am large and have long arms:

LOOK

IT IS CATHERINE TATE SIGNING A MY SCRIPT

THEN I SAID "THANK YOU" AND SHE SAID SOMETHING ALONG THE LINES OF "OH NO PROBLEM" AND I PROMPTLY SAID "I LOVE YOU" (LIRL)

TBH I am not actually 100% sure she is signing my script in this picture but she is signing a script in front of me and I have a picture of it so I'm just going to pretend. I got both their signatures! I did not tell David Tennant that I loved him which is probably for the best. I will probably post the billion photos I took at some point but I don't want to hog lorelaisquared's computer any longer. BUT I HAD TO SHARE.

New s6b trailer with a few clips we haven't seen before and obligatory unnecessary BBCA cheesy voice-over:

Also a description of s6b, promo stuff but I'll cut for spoilers anyway.Collapse )

Apparently on Monday we get the third and final prequel, and this time it will actually be relevant and worth watching since it'll have the Doctor and Amy.

On a similar note, BBCA has an article up about Rose Tyler and it's pretty cute. I like the description of Cloen at the end, lol.

In other news, I leave in twelve days! I still have to do things like "buy shoes" and "write my work-term report" and "call the credit card company", but I am getting pretty excited. And by "pretty excited" I mean

GET READY, ENGLAND/OPAL.

...so here is some stuff:

I. This art (featuring Nine, Rose, Ten, Martha, Donna, Eleven, Amy, and Rory) is totally adorable. LOOKIT 'EM ALL IN ONE PLACE. I love the different ways they're ~connected~ too, very appropriate. Anyway A+ all around.

II. I see series 6 promo stuff is starting to gear up. Cut for some discussion of it. Nothing spoilery outside of what TPTB have said in interviews and such.Collapse )

III. Thirdly, we watched the Library episodes in our rewatch recently. It's the first time I've seen them since I started liking River, and I can safely say now that while I am no longer butthurt about it and the episodes are a bit improved by not thinking River is the worst, I still find the actual plot a hot mess full of frustrating resolutions. AND SAVED/SAFE WILL NEVER MAKE SENSE TO ME AS A REVEAL EVERRrr. And I hope when Amy finds out about all this she punches the Doctor in the nads tbh.

IV. During the great LJ downtime I started writing a list of my top 10 non-RTD episodes, which is actually yielding sort of surprising results. So that should be up... whenever I get around to finishing it and finding some graphics. There's actually an even split between Moffat Who and RTD Who episodes! I guess when it comes down to it all my favourite RTD Who episodes are by RTD himself, whereas... only one of the Moffat Who episodes is actually by Moffat. Hmmm. It's sort of fun to share my love for some of the episodes I don't talk about as much, though.

V. Doctor Who related: I am dragging shinyopals and goldy_dollar with me to see Doctor Faustus on the 4th of September, adding yet another layer of Doctor Who to our trip. Whee! I am not actually very familiar with the play itself, but seeing a 16th century play performed at the Globe starring a Doctor Who actor gives me a lot of nerd bingo points, so.

VI. Wow look at all these bullet points. I GUESS I DO STILL HAVE A LOT TO SAY. Here's a gif for your time:

Kali
I. My internet at home is not working. This is incredibly distressing, especially with the long weekend and subsequent surplus of free time coming up. Even more distressing is the fact that I was like "well I can write fic I guess" and then remembered that no, actually all my WIPs are GoogleDocs and I cannot access them. DAMN YOU TECHNOLOGY AND MY UTTER RELIANCE ON YOU.

II. My internet is complicating matters but we are half-way through series 3 in our rewatch and my main thought rn is HOW CAN ANYONE HATE MARTHA JONES, she is so fabulous, ugh internet you don't know what you're missing.

III. I bought my plane ticket to England! shinyopals ARE YOU READY FOR THIS. I must say though, I have never bought a plane ticket before (the one time I've flown it was included in a big package deal lump sum school trip thing) and now I see why. That shit is expensive. Do they not realize that as a Canadian I have an intrinsic desire to leave the country at least twice a year?

IV. More top 5s! I am almost done. I have a bromance one to post but I want youtube clips and stuff and I'm not getting that at work, either. BUT placebetween wanted Top 5 celebrities I would like to hang out with at home. No pictures because I am at work and googling all these people feels awkward, so you'll just have to deal with my ~words. THE ANSWERS MAY SURPRISE YOUCollapse )

So we rewatched Girl in the Fireplace last night. I think I'm going to do a sort of round-up post at the end of s2 with my general Rewatch Thoughts, so I will spare you my feelings until that time, but it did leave me wondering about this one repeated phrase which I assumed was a British Thing but which shinyopals says is not:

"We've had some cowboys in here" (in a figurative sense) is...

Not a phrase I have ever heard (Totally unfamiliar)
45(61.6%)
A phrase I have only heard once or twice from the same source (Relatively unfamiliar)
17(23.3%)
A phrase I have heard a few times from various sources (Familiar)
11(15.1%)
A phrase I would use/have used myself (Very familiar)
0(0.0%)

I. Since someone on my flist might know: David Tennant reading The Philosopher's Stone -- why does this exist and where can I find more?

II. Hmm, tbh there is not much to update about my life recently. Mostly I have been going to work and occasionally getting into wank at doctorwho and then sending links to placebetween. So here are some more top 5s:

fauxkaren wanted my Top 5 Female CharactersCollapse )

And on an equally srs note, firstofoct wanted Top 5 Doctor Who Episodes in terms of how attractive Ten isCollapse )

I. Just watched last night's HIMYM, I will cut for spoilers I guess.Collapse )

II. So a Radio Times poll named Rose as the most popular companion. That sound you hear is a thousand fanboys crying, but basically:

Naturally the first comment on the doctorwho post was "IF ROSE WON I'LL PUNCH MYSELF IN THE FACE". Hahahaha. W/e, haters gonna hate, etc. The remaining top 5 were Sarah Jane, Donna, K-9 (wtf) and Amy, in that order. Martha Jones was 11th which I find upsetting, though replace K-9 with Martha and the top 5 is good by me. Full results (all 40-something) are here if anyone cares and hasn't seen it yet.

III. Speaking of Amy Pond, Karen Gillan is going to be in some hilarious Shakespeare teen movie with some guy from Misfits and Dana Scully:

The actress has been cast as a New Jersey high-schooler who gets sent back in time to 13th century Verona and finds herself trapped in Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet.

Gillian Anderson will play Gillan's mother and a nurse in Verona, while Misfits actor Robert Sheehan is the school nerd who becomes Brittney's Romeo.

NGL my primary questions right now are a) does that mean she is done after s6? and b) but how does her accent compare to David Tennant's? shinyopals, clearly the time is ripe for our movie.

I will say though that I always sort of laugh when people are morally outraged by Shakespeare adaptations like this. I'm not saying this movie is necessarily going to be any good, but if he is rolling in his grave it is with laughter and not outrage.

IV. Aaaand rounding things off with a meme:

Give me a character/pairing from a fandom and I'll tell you
* why I love them
* my favourite moment
* my favourite quote
* my select song for this character/pairing (lol pre-emptively reserving the right to skip this one)
* my head canon for this character/pairing

shinyopals wrote up a pretty great post about consent and the need for warnings in fanfiction (with particular attention to tropes in Doctor Who fic and probably sci-fi in general) that you should all go read. Given the subject matter, there's some potentially triggery stuff in the post related to sexual assault, rape, and consent in general.

In slightly more light-hearted fare, I did this poll over a year ago and now am curious to see how the results have shifted, so... POLL 2.0!

I have been known to refer to that character from Journey's End as...

10.5
41(15.0%)
Ten II
65(23.7%)
Ten2
37(13.5%)
TenToo
10(3.6%)
Handy
22(8.0%)
Cloen
52(19.0%)
blue!Ten
7(2.6%)
Metacrisis Doctor
11(4.0%)
human Ten
17(6.2%)
John Smith
4(1.5%)
Starfish
5(1.8%)
HORRIBLE PLOT DEVICE THAT CONTINUES TO RUIN MY SHIP FOREVERRR
3(1.1%)

Is this just a poll so that Frances and Kali can feel smug about how many people have started using "Cloen"?

Yes
67(100.0%)

I. I am going to goldy_dollar's cottage tomorrow to hang out with her and shinyopals! Hurrah! This would be exciting even if I wasn't horrifically bored, but since I am horrifically bored it seems even more appealing. I should probably... pack... and stuff.

II. Because of the aforementioned boredom, I started doing more Top 5s, but then only got through one before wandering away. The other ones require too much thought to be appealing right now, evidently. So I present to you my top 5 Doctor Who characters who only appeared in one episodeCollapse )

I. DNW D:

It is the Sun so I am not putting much stock in it, but then I also did not put any stock in it when they told me Martha and Mickey would be married in EOT and look how that turned out. IDK. I will believe it when it happens. This is also the outlook I have adopted regarding that apparent Torchwood casting sheet.

II. It is vitally important that you all know that shinyopals reads robot porn.

III. Whenever I attempt to take a break from Doctor Who fandom irritating me, I wind up running into all these posts on ohnotheydidnt about the Mel Gibson debacle and for every ten clever people there is that one asshole being like "idk i think she looks shady~" and UGH UNIVERSE. I am watching you, internet.

IV. Day 10 – A Who-Related Photo That You Took

At first I was all, "I don't have any", but then I remembered...

MOTHERFUCKING SKYDIVING TEN. YEAHHHH. Great toy, or greatest toy?

Ty shinyopals and goldy_dollar for your contribution to this meme.

The rest of the days!Collapse )

shinyopals!

IT IS YOUR BIRTHDAY.

Since I just hijacked Saturday from Multiple France to spam you with Doctor/Rose fluff instead this post will be a collection of other things I know you enjoy. With the help of TinyPic. READY GO:

I PROMISE THERE IS NOT ACTUALLY ANGST UNDER HERE.Collapse )

As you can see I know you well. HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

1. My dad is in Sweden on business right now. His email on the matter says, "Everyone speaks english here & landscape looks a lot like Canada." DON'T MAKE IT SOUND SO EXOTIC, DAD.

Who am I kidding, I am totally jealous. I even sent hysteriagalore a stupid email that was like "HEY WE HAVE SOME OF UR MONEYZ LOLOL SO COOL LOL~" and I assume she turned away in shame.

2. I watched Monday's HIMYM about an hour ago.Collapse )

3. So shinyopals mentioned that in one of the Doctor Who comics or something there's a bit where Donna leaves a video goodbye for Ten. Upon learning this my reaction was a mix of glee and outrage at HOW DARE THIS EXIST WITHOUT ANYONE TELLING ME UNTIL NOW! Anyway the scans are huge so I didn't want to look at work, but I got all excited by this tidbit and started planning a fic on the bus home and everything... only to actually look at the scans and learn they are basically the animated version of my fic. So... humph. Fine then, comic book person, be that way, I guess I won't infringe copyrights tonight.

4. Matt Smith is officially hilarious, which moves him up a lot in my estimations, though to be fair he was never particularly low. How can you resent a man who loves Mini Eggs, I ask you. I am getting more and more impatient for s5 to just start already. COME ON.

5. Most of you have probably seen this already but for the few who may not have and will appreciate it: lol 80s David Tennant lol
