obligatory unlocked fandom post
There's finally a Waters of Mars clip that looks somewhat interesting! I appreciate the way every single one-off companion must be "the Doctor's most ____ companion yet!!!", I enjoy watching them try to come up with new adjectives. Apparently this chick is ~strong-willed~ but previously I heard intelligent. I don't have much to say about it beyond OOO SHINY.

goldy_dollar and I watched the first three episodes of Children of the Earth yesterday, and she has a joint reaction post here.

Seems like with Tosh dead, Torchwood was like, "well, ONE of us has to start being competent now!" and Gwen drew the short straw. I am not sure how to feel about this. Also, Gwen/Rhys for the win, I would rather see her argue over car keys with Rhys than have creepy sexual harassment with Jack or an even creepier affair with Owen. I love Rhys. Rhys is probably the only character they could kill off that would actually bother me.

Also, I know there's a precedent for Donna Noble failing to notice these things, but seriously, LIRL. Didn't the trailer imply there's like a world war by episode five? Oh Donna.

Also, I will never get over the hilarity of Jack being blown up. Ahahaha. Ahaha. Haha.

Lastly, chips_remixed fics went up yesterday and hippiebanana132 remixed my fic right here: Some Sort of Time Lord Code (The Preamble Remix). It is nifty so you should go read it.

I enjoyed Gwen being competent and shooting stuff. I was going to say that Ianto was also decently competent (he rescued Jack from concrete with a forklift - FTW!) but then I remembered his car got stolen and loled.
Kali_thirty2flavors on July 9th, 2009 04:58 pm (UTC)
HIS CAR GOT STOLEN BY HOODLUMS WHO CAN DEFEAT TRIPLE DEADLOCKS. Well done Ianto.

I have to disagree with Gwen drawing the short straw. She's had some pretty badass moments during these episodes.

P.S. Martha really wasn't honeymooning. She was getting raped on the set of Law & Order UK!
Kali: voice of a nightingale_thirty2flavors on July 9th, 2009 05:11 pm (UTC)
I meant she drew the short straw in the sense that she gets the burden of being the competent one while Ianto and Jack can continue to fuck around.

I laughed pretty hard when I learned that Chris Chibnall writes Law and Order. Poor Freema, what a rock and a hard place.
Let Them Talkbluetooth16 on July 9th, 2009 06:07 pm (UTC)
Oh, I get it now! I am in complete agreement. Hell, even Rhys is starting to pull some weight, and yet Jack and Ianto are doing god knows what.

Wait, his name is familiar, but I can't place it.
Kali_thirty2flavors on July 9th, 2009 06:27 pm (UTC)
Rhys has been doing Torchwood's job better than Torchwood since Meat. I do really love Rhys, legitimately, with no hint of scorn.

He's the guy who wrote most of Torchwood s1/s2, including the finales and stuff. He's, um, not my favourite writer ever.
Let Them Talkbluetooth16 on July 9th, 2009 06:40 pm (UTC)
Once he got over the "ZOMG aliens exist" phase, he's became an extremely useful person. I don't get why so many fans hate Rhys. He took a level in badass, and still continues to be awesome in CoE.

P.S. LMAO!!! No wonder why L&O UK became a trainwreck by the end! Maybe series two will be an improvement, if Torchwood is any indication of his writing style.

Kali: does it need saying?_thirty2flavors on July 9th, 2009 06:55 pm (UTC)
Fandom doesn't like Rhys? I don't know why I'm surprised, fandom always hates what I love, but still, wtf, Torchwood fandom. Rhys is the reason I mostly couldn't stand Gwen during season 1, because she was such a douche to him and he was so awesome.

HAHA YEAH I HEARD. I didn't watch it but I knew of the rape plotline and that it was poorly received and then when I saw his name attached to the show I was like LOL THAT EXPLAINS IT.
Let Them Talkbluetooth16 on July 9th, 2009 07:04 pm (UTC)
Most of the Rhys haters are also Jack/Gwen shippers, which explains a lot.

It's a good thing you DIDN'T watch. I kept screaming "OMG THEY RAPED MARTHA JONES!". That's how much it fucked with my head. At least the original L&O had a random female underling get sexually assaulted.
Kali_thirty2flavors on July 9th, 2009 07:10 pm (UTC)
Yeah that would do it. Omg Jack/Gwen is so many degrees of DNW for me.

I did hear Freema's acting was good though? Which is different from what I usually hear about her, so that was nice. Ish. I dunno, Law and Order doesn't interest me and Chris Chibnall interests me even less.

the waters of mars looks like such nightmare fuel
Kali_thirty2flavors on July 9th, 2009 05:11 pm (UTC)
LIRL Ikr, I enjoy when RTD tries to be creepy because it doesn't happen very often but sometimes he pulls it off. Like Midnight.
michelemiss_mishi on July 9th, 2009 05:14 pm (UTC)
Midnight makes me so afraid, always.
Kali_thirty2flavors on July 9th, 2009 05:16 pm (UTC)
Midnight is like one of my favourite episodes, it's so great. EVIL JKR!
michelemiss_mishi on July 9th, 2009 05:18 pm (UTC)
Ugh YES. She so creepy. I love that episode.
Kali_thirty2flavors on July 9th, 2009 05:21 pm (UTC)
The talking-in-synch part always fasinates me. I wonder if they had to tweak the audio digitally or if it was just intense timing/acting.
michelemiss_mishi on July 9th, 2009 05:23 pm (UTC)
I like to hope that it was in sync actually.

I wonder how hard that episode was to film On the one hand it's all in one place. On the other hand the acting is phenomenal
Kali_thirty2flavors on July 9th, 2009 05:27 pm (UTC)
I think parts of it were -- like when Ten and EvilJKR are sitting face-to-face -- because ou can see their mouths. But the rest of the time when she's just echoing from the background, it makes me wonder.

Yeah, and it's such a sort of... cramped, tiny set. Also, kudos to RTD for writing a companion-lite episode and a Doctor-lite episode and both of them being totally kickass. I'm pretty sure that hasn't happened before. (I guess Blink was sort of both at once, but eh.)
Christinacallmepatsy on July 9th, 2009 05:25 pm (UTC)
They totally tweaked it, I watched the confidential about that one and they both recorded it separately and then synched it.
Kali_thirty2flavors on July 9th, 2009 05:27 pm (UTC)
LIRL, AND THE MAGIC IS GONE!

I thought they probably did, at least for some parts.
Christinacallmepatsy on July 9th, 2009 05:29 pm (UTC)
Sorry. I should have let you think it was just awesome acting.
Kali_thirty2flavors on July 9th, 2009 05:35 pm (UTC)
It is okay, I brought this on myself.

I watched the Runaway Bride commentary once and learned that all teh dialogue when Ten and Donna are on the roof had to be patched in later because it was too windy to hear, and now every time I watch I try to catch the voices not matching the mouths. LIRL

Did you see the Confidential for Midnight (or listened to the podcast)? It's fascinating how they did all that. It's not so much down to the skill of the actors in getting it to sync, but in the way the audio side of the production works and who gets miced and when and how and what do you do when literally everyone is talking all at once. One of the best Confidentials ever, from a technical-film-stuff angle.

DUDE. That scene. I'm at school and I kept on saying "Holy shit." thru out the whole scene. It was like watching one of those scary sci-fi films. I was like "WTF? WATER ZOMBIES!?" Sort of reminds me of the time where the sun possessed the Doctor. (water is scarier then fire) mixed with the episode "Midnight" as you pointed out. I don't want to see D.T. in that kind of situation thou. Midnight scared the life out of me even if they had Merlin there for me to swoon over. They were thinking about killing the Doctor.

I haven't seen Torchwood and I tried to not look but when I saw "Jack being blown up." I'm heading straight towards my computer when I get home! XD

I like creepy episodes, so if Waters of Mars is creepy I will be delighted. I wasn't that creeped out by the clip, but I have a very high tolerance when it comes to that sort of thing. RTD has implied that this is the episode where it starts sucking to be Ten again, so I won't be too surprised if a bus full of humans try to kill him, or whatever.

HAHAHA. Yeah the first two episodes of Torchwood were great.

I actually like scary stuff too, one of my favorite movies of all time is Carrie but I really didn't expect Doctor Who to go that creepy.

Then again, I was so stuck all lovey dovey for happy Doctor/Rose and I think me being naive didn't expect the EMONESS/DARKNESS of Ten in Series 3. LOL. I mean, Nine shown a lot of a dark perspective but when Ten came along it was just cuteeee. Even "The Idiot's Lantern" with the people with no faces didn't creep me out because of the HAPPINESS of the ship, The Impossible Planet/The Satan's Pit, I knew they would come back in love and probably boinked/did the deed a few times as my friend arabian said. Even Doomsday I may have cried my eyes out but I knew that they were in love. Even though she was trapped in parallel universe forever, I knew RTD would bring her back anyway. If Series 1 wasn't an indication. The Big Bad Wolf. Bad Wolf Bay. Got to be something.

I must say, non-shipper wise, Series 3 has always been my favorite then series 4 came around and it's tied. XD

Poor Ten, he's never going to get a break. Thanks for giving me that info. I shall watch now with an open kill!ten perspective.

HAHAHA. Yeah the first two episodes of Torchwood were great.
WOOT!!!! I will watch then. HERE I COME EXPLODING JACK!!!
