"he grew out of a hand!" "HE TURNED INTO AN OOD!"
While watching "Planet of the Ood", goldy_dollar and I got into an argument over what the most ridiculous moment of OMGWTF in Doctor Who is.

So we bring the question to you:

Poll #1422163 doctor who "science"

Which moment made you WTF the hardest?

Nine manages to visit the Titanic, Kennedy's assassination and the set of LOST without walking by a reflective surface

Tea fixing comas
0(0.0%)
Mixing and matching different meds = THE ULTIMATE CURE-ALL

Love and Monsters
3(3.2%)
The Daleks make humans subservient by turning them into pigs.Sort of. Except Lazslow.

8(8.6%)
Jack turns into a giant face, which then gives birth
18(19.4%)
The dude drinks extract of Ood, then peels off his face to reveal HE HAS BECOME AN OOD

I have to admit that's part of its charm, for me.
christycorr on June 28th, 2009 03:58 am (UTC)
... can there be an "all of the above?"

Nine manages to visit the Titanic, Kennedy's assassination and the set of LOST without walking by a reflective surface -> this bugs me every single time I watch Rose.

Mixing and matching different meds = THE ULTIMATE CURE-ALL -> and then they cure each other by HOLDING HANDS, what the fuuuuck.

With ~suspended regerenation~ the Doctor turns into Dobby -> this does not strike me as particularly odd, considering that it seems to be a Who science constant that a human being's head really never stops growing no matter how much he ages.

Love and Monsters, The Daleks make humans subservient by turning them into pigs.Sort of. Except Lazslow. and Jenny regenerates... Sort of. Two hours later. Without changing. After being created thanks to a nonsensical paradox (and the TARDIS being a bitch) -> these three don't count. Let's just pretend they really, really didn't happen.

Tea fixing comas -> Oh, come on, they're British. It makes sense! For a given value of 'sense.'

Ahahah RADIO BUTTONS, MAKING LIFE DIFFICULT.

and then they cure each other by HOLDING HANDS, what the fuuuuck. Omg, I know. THAT RIGHT THERE: SCIENCE.

My favourite part of the Jenny one is the nonsensical paradox and the fact that they're only there because I guess the TARDIS is kind of sadistic.

WHY MUST YOU MAKE ME CHOOSE! It was almost a tie between Doctor/Dobby and PenisFace but in the end PenisFace had to win, because honest to god WTF.

Also, I've thought of a brilliant brilliant ending to our fic, and if you don't like it I'm going to fly to Canada and poke you in the eye.

I sort of wish I had a PenisFace icon. Maybe I'll make myself one.

It's funny, in my heart of hearts I knew I had to vote for Guy Turns Into Ood, but we did come up with many ocmpelling thoughts.

OMG TELL ME!

That would be the most beeyootiful icon ever.

I was having a hard time choosing as I read the list... then I got to Jack turning into a giant face... AND THEN GIVING BIRTH. That made me lol so hard... so I chose that one.
Kali_thirty2flavors on June 28th, 2009 05:00 am (UTC)
LOL I always forget about the birth thing, Frances had to remind me of that when I was writing that option.

Butting in to say, how can you look at a list of so much wtf contained in one TV show and not want to watch that? Doctor Who is the crackiest crack that ever cracked, trufax.

We realized we could've made more and more polls, but this was the max that fit into one, lirl. BUT THAT WAS ALSO AWESOME.

I had to go with penisface.

To be shamefully honest, most of those things at the time I was all, "Oh yes, this makes perfect sense." It was only later, once I emerged from my episode-induced diabetic coma that I realised that actually none of it makes ANY sense of ANY kind.

God I love this show. I really, really do.
Kali: reel me in my precious girl_thirty2flavors on June 28th, 2009 05:02 am (UTC)
There are several that I kind of accepted, too. The Ood one was one that made me WTF right away -- which resulted in me going "THIS IS THE MOST ILLOGICAL THING TO EVER HAPPEN" while watching the episode, which spawned our academic debate.

I don't really see how someone could not love this show.
Let Them Talk: Iranified Georginabluetooth16 on June 28th, 2009 04:45 am (UTC)
Although there were a lot of WTF moments, I had to go with hiding in 1913 with a black female companion. I was speaking about that for quite a few days after I saw that arc.
Kali: the oncoming storm_thirty2flavors on June 28th, 2009 05:02 am (UTC)
OMG, I KNOW! EVERY TIME I WATCH IT I'M LIKE THIS WAS YOUR GOOD IDEA?

If it had been Rose they'd've gone to Disney World for three months. Ten, you douchebag.

I still maintain that HE GREW OUT OF HIS OWN HAND > OOD, but um... we came up with a lot of really persuasive other ones.

Ten deciding to hide with his black female companion in 1913 Europe

Rose would have had Disney World. But then, Martha can take comfort in the fact that Ten probably wouldn't have trusted with Jack with the watch at all.
Kali: doctordonna friends_thirty2flavors on June 28th, 2009 05:06 am (UTC)
I DON'T CARE. AT LEAST WHEN HE GREW OUT OF HIS HAND HE DIDN'T GROW INTO AN OOD. Being half human is a lot less of a stretch than exploding tentacles and a brain from your mouth.

OMG, YES. Ten would just be like "normally I would try and be merciful but I am not entrusting you with my life" and go destroy some Family of Blood ass straight off the bat.

And I think Donna would've insisted they masquerade as fabulously wealthy socialites in like 3005 or something.

I CAN'T DECIDE. You could've had an "all of the above" choice. Or at least "ticky box".

Nine not seeing himself before "Rose" is kind of strange though.

I liked Dalek Sec's penisface. I found it amusing. Plus it always makes me think of the penis bouquet pic and then I laugh and laugh. ;)
Kali_thirty2flavors on June 28th, 2009 05:11 am (UTC)
But then we wouldn't be able to determine what was TRULY the most wtf.

Haha I know, right? It's fine until they have him apparently doing all these things pre-Rose.

Bouquet of penises. I am not sure I want to ask.

You need an "All of the Above" ticky box. Because, seriously, I can't choose just one.
Kali: partners in crime_thirty2flavors on June 28th, 2009 05:18 am (UTC)
BUT THEN I CAN'T DETERMINE THE MOST "WTF"! It is all for science.
Eos: Tardis.firstlightofeos on June 28th, 2009 05:25 am (UTC)
I chose Face of Boe, because really, wtf. How does a person become a face with tentacles? AND GIVE BIRTH? Seriously, Jack has some major skills, being able to have sex/become impregnated when he's that ridiculous-looking.

But so many of the others are wtfy, too...and I agree with Chris' request that we pretend Love and Monsters and the pig-people and the Doctor's Daughter never existed. Because. Um. Yeah. No.

The thing is, a lot of things made sense at the time, but now that we look at them, it's just kind of..."Yeah, that is the most ridiculous thing ever. Why do I still watch this show? *pause* OH RIGHT BECAUSE IT'S AWESOME." Please imagine Barney Stinson saying the last bit because that's the inflection in my head.
Kali: partners in crime_thirty2flavors on June 28th, 2009 05:34 am (UTC)
Being turned into a giant face must've been such a terrible fate for Jack, except apparently he could get it on anyway. Who knew.

I don't think it's fair to class The Doctor's Daughter in the same category as the s3-Dalek episoes and Love & Monsters. We watched it before Planet of the Ood and there is no way it is as terible as the aforementioned ones. I kind of wish Jenny had stayed dead though, since I fail to see the point of her living if she never comes back on the show. Sort of like how I won't miss River Song, but if we never hear from her again WHAT WAS EVEN THE POINT OF THAT MENTAL TURMOIL, OMFG.

Oh yeah, most of htese, while watching the episode, it's like "oh right that is totally logical". But the ood thing was NEVER logical to me, so it won my vote.

I still maintain that there should be a crossover with Barney and Ten. Frances and I agree that Barney would want to BE Ten.

Nine manages to visit the Titanic, Kennedy's assassination and the set of LOST without walking by a reflective surface
I always thought that 9 did all those things at some point after meeting Rose and destroying the Autons, then finally realised he was lonely and came back for her with the "travels in time" line.

Jenny regenerates... Sort of. Two hours later. Without changing. After being created thanks to a nonsensical paradox (and the TARDIS being a bitch)
I guess she went into one of those TimeLord healing coma/sleeps but the Doctor didn't think her capable of it and thus didn't know she had. Plus the TARDIS only did this to preserve the Doctor's race as it was obvious he wasn't gonna get busy any time soon (since he had lost Rose and was all EMO all the time)

Ten deciding to hide with his black female companion in 1913 Europe
This was the TARDIS being a bitch. For one Martha would not be willing to stay here and John Smith would not fall in love with Martha. Two, the upcoming wars would be a factor on him having to leave. Three maybe she latched onto Tim a bit?

Kali: voice of a nightingale_thirty2flavors on June 28th, 2009 05:36 am (UTC)
I suppose there always is that possibility, but I never imagine much time elapsing for Nine in that little bit. Hmmm.

Frances and I couldn't decide if we were supposed to believe Jenny quasi-regenerated or if she was saved by the Source in a very delayed fashion. Either way I still crack up every time Martha takes her pulse and promptly declares her doomed. I am glad you are an expert in Time Lord biology, Martha.

Haha poor, poor Martha. I'm relatively certain if it was any other companion they'd've gone somewhere considerably less bleak.

Very hard to choose, actually. I just realized how utterly ridiculous Doctor Who is.

I had to go with:
The Doctor floats and glows thanks to the power of thought

Even the first time I was watching it I thought it was ridiculous. I came close to choosing Dalek Sec's penis face, but that whole episode was so awful, his penis face was the best part!

Kali: the oncoming storm_thirty2flavors on June 28th, 2009 02:29 pm (UTC)
I'm pretty sure I spent my first watch of LOTL in a dazed, confused awe, and most of what i noticed about that scene was "OH THANK GOD HE'S NOT DOBBY ANYMORE". And then I thought about it, and I realized that somehow the ~power of thought~ made him young again, conveniently grew his tiny, tiny suit (omg the tiny suit is my favourite part of Dobbydoctor) into a full-sized one, exploded a bird cage and made him levitate and glow.

And then it was like "..............."

The big one for me was always the time reversing. Time reversing is never a good plot device, though at least in LOTL it kind of makes sense. It happens in s1 of Torchwood for NO APPARENT REASON THAT IS EVER EXPLAINED. Thank you, Chris Chibnall.
