Afterward

So the surgery was apparently as successful as anyone could hope for. I had quite a talk with Ray earlier in the day when I happened to fully wake up from one of my medical induced naps.

"Were there any complications?" I asked, still trying to wake up. Could only sleep for so long and my body felt rady to get out of bed. "What happened while I was under?"

"Well," Ray started with a grunt. "Everything at first was going fine that was until I found the core. I had a hell of a time trying to defend myself." He motioned to the switch board off a ways. "I stayed in constant radio communication here, I'm sure the aduio feed should be avaliable for you if you'd like to review it."

"Maybe later." I commented.

He smiled a bit and pulled up a chair next to me, looking to the bouquet of yellow roses sitting beside my bed. "These are goregous."

"Aren't they?" I smiled, still dazed. "Dick brought them." He also came to visit me some time after I woke up for the first time. I still can't believe he stayed the entire time.

I made sure I sent him to bed though. Poor thing looked like he hadn't slept in days. And knowing him? He probably didn't.

"I won't like to you, Barbara." Ray said softly. "There were a few times where I didn't think I'd make it out of there in one piece. Those nano-probes that were inside you? They.... didn't do as much damage as we thought. Which is always something good. They were tough and they didn't seem like they wanted to leave their host.

"When I first when in and removed the first... I guess it triggered them all-- once I got to the main 'key' I was able to shut them all down and dissrupt all of their components at the same time. it was... just hell getting to the core, like I said."

I raised an eyebrow at the matter. She went to open her mouth to speak, but was quickly silenced by Ray's voice.

"AND don't you dare apologize." He wagged his finger. "I was more than happy to do it. I'm... just glad you're okay." He leaned over and gave me a hug.

I can't believe I know such wonderful people...

"Thank you, Ray. Really."

He nodded. "Anytime." He stood, putting the chair back where it came from. "And you can go home tommorrow... but I don't want you doing anything like-- lifting a three hundred ton car, okay?" he winked.

I gave a weak lauh. "I have no intensions on it."

"And.. if you have any more questions, need anything else clarified, let me know and I'll be more than happy to assist. You get some rest, okay?"

"I can't promise that." I smirked, giving a slight wave.

Hmm...

Kind of hungry... I wonder if anyone'll let me eat....
