Stressful day

Silly things out of the way first:

Via diachrony:

Ask me for "top five" lists of pretty much anything, and I will list you my top five of that thing or things.

Then if you feel like it, put this in your LJ.

Now, for the rest:

I burnt the crap out of my left hand today at work. Pulled a microwave cheese lasagna plate out of the wave at work, and it bent and flipped over onto my palm. Laying molten cheese and sauce like peanut butter on bread. I leapt away, apparently splattering goo in a 10 foot wide radius all over the breakroom to shove my hand under the cold tap. The dish landed behind me, spattering my ass with cheese. Just what I wanted. >:(

I gave up and went to the doctor after a couple hours, assuming I could at least get some painkillers. Sigh. I ended up being told to go home and take Advil.

Fine. I took Advil. And some Vicodin that we had left over from aminal's back surgery.

Now comes the aloe gel ...

1) ... Are you telling me wearing nothing to bed is just your "favorite," or is this actually a habit of yours? What about during winter? I've actually heard that's warmer too. Your body heat warms up the bed & keeps you warmer than flannel jammies. I tried it (my sister sleeps nekkid all the time and she's the one who told me it was warmer) but you know me and the burqa habit. I've thought of trying it again, but in this heat, I don't even cover with a sheet, and I am not going to lie there totally uncovered. Yeesh.

And what about those ducky pants? You take 'em off before bed?

2) Let's see, what am I watching now (when they're actually on -- new season should be starting next month sometime, I guess) -- no particular order:
- "CSI" (because you got me into it)
- "House" (love, love, love Gregory House as played by Bertie Wooster, oops I mean Hugh Laurie.) Such a beautiful man.
- "Boston Legal" (because Aminal stars in it. Oh wait, that's James Spader.) ;)

I guess I mostly watch DVDs ...

3) snacks ...
- Tillamook Extra Sharp cheddar cheese, Bubbies pickles, good red wine ("good" = "expensive enough it doesn't give me a hangover and cheap enough I don't go broke buying enough for a week at a time")
- Dark chocolate and a flavored coffee
- Brie and blueberries or strawberries

That's all I can think of, pretty much. Of course there are illegitimate snacks on occasion.

(And look, either pairs or threes ...)

4) Websites (this should be easy):
- Does Yahoo Mail count? I don't usually count email sites.
- LiveJournal
- TwoEngineers
- SeraC's site (more often lately, when I have a chance. Which isn't often enough *whines*)
- longhair forum

TBC ...

cont'd ...

5) evil books:
My dad actually read "Atlas Shrugged." I can't believe he got through the whole thing. I think he was fancying himself an Objectivist. I have not read it and keep thinking it's one of those books I *ought* to read.

Rush's book is actually entitled "The Way Things Ought To Be" and I read it myself, because I'm of the opinion that I can't feel comfortable despising someone if I don't know for myself what they've actually said (this is how I ended up enjoying Howard Stern). And after reading it, I felt very comfortable despising Rush.

There's actually a gay teen coming-of-age novel with the same title that looks pretty good. I bet I'll read it! The Way Things Ought To Be by Gregory Hinton.

I haven't read the others you mention.

Some books I hates:

"Before and After" by Rosellen Brown. I almost always finish a book I've started, but I forced myself to slog through over half of this and simply could not take anymore. It wasn't badly written, but it was first-person from the viewpoint of a father who's done his best to cover up and gloss over a brutal rape and murder committed by his son, and I found it terribly repulsive.

"Anna Karenina." Gawd. That year in school we were reading the Russian writers, and while "Brothers Karamazov" was kind of interesting (but I never cared enough to finish it), what I came away with was that all of the characters in these novels needed a good swift kick in the ass. What a whiny self-pitying bunch who insisted on being thoroughly miserable. By hook or by crook, they *gots* to be miserable. And "Anna Karenina" was the longest and therefore drove me the craziest ... I forced myself to finish, but the truth is long before I got there, the words had just turned to markings on paper. I had no interest in these people AT ALL.

You know the main Scientology text? Oh wait, actually I didn't hate it so much as find it scarily hilarious. But I would have hated it if I had to read the whole damn thing.

"A Course in Miracles" ... whoever wrote this needs a course in Get To the Point and Then Shut the Fuck Up. Did I finish it? Ha ha ha. I got about a fifth of the way in, pages and pages of the same circular rhetoric never going anywhere. And then I skimmed through it and everywhere I landed sounded exactly the same. Saying the same damn thing. Over and over and over and over and over and Jesus loves you and be nice to people and now shut up and take a goddamn Valium.

I tried, I really tried to finish the Beauty trilogy by A. N. Roquelaure (Anne Rice's pr0n nom-de-plume). But I had to stop halfway into Book Two. I simply couldn't take anymore S&M. This is another one for the list. Just could not take one more page.

I'm so vanilla ...

1) Yes, I almost never wear anything to bed. I don't like how the clothes wrap around me and strangle in my sleep. Blech.

All this talk about books reminds me that you asked recently if I had read "A Confederacy of Dunces". I read the first couple of chapters and then the owner of the book took it back. Sigh.
Diodiachrony on July 24th, 2005 07:16 pm (UTC)
I've got two copies of "Confederacy of Dunces." One's the paperback that I read over & over, and one's a nice fancy hardcover. I should give you the paperback and you'll get to read the whole thing! (I promise I won't take it back before you finish. In fact, if I can manage to *find* it, you can keep.)

Accio book!

Oh wait ...

Accio Confederacy of Dunces!

I forgot another TV show. "Desperate Housewives," of course!

I'm sure there is at least a 5th that I just can't think of ... everything's been in reruns or on hiatus so haven't watched TV for some time.
