Convergence 2005 - from my point of view
Aminal and I go to Convergence every year.

Here's what I did this year!

Checked into the hotel. We waited until almost the week before the convention to book our hotel room this year, and paid for it by having a room on the 15th floor. *rolleyes* The elevators are almost always slower than molassas and packed full of fans and their baggage. I'm glad we were able to get a room, though. Otherwise, I make poor aminal leave the parties far sooner than he wants to.

Once we'd dumped off our baggage (hard to believe we bring so much crap with us when we live 20 minutes away), we took a few turns around the party/consuite area. This is the atrium around the pool and event area, with two levels of party rooms, the consuite, reading room and coffee/tea room called COF2E2 (ha ha) on one side, and mainstage, registration and ops on the other. Once the parties started reving up, around 8pm or so, we went back upstairs so I could change into one of my bellydancing outfits, the black and pink two-piece. (I should really put pictures of those up so I can link to them ...). We had to wait quite a while for the elevator, as I suspected. Sigh.

The parties were good fun. There was Cthulhu Coffee, the Toast room, Dystopia, Harry Knowles holding court, the Minicon room, Captain Kirk's house of Ill Repute, the Xenaversity room, the Buffy fan room, etc. My favorite part of that night was seeing a friend who'd had a gastric bypass after last year's con, and I hadn't really seen her in a while. She'd lost 95 lbs, and looked great! I'm so happy for her.

Anyway, as usual, I demanded bed much sooner than aminal preferred. Oops.

Got up to work out around 7:30 am or so. Aminal tries to work out every day, and went and ran on the treadmill next to him. After a quick shower, and a terribly overpriced breakfast at the hotel cafe, I went to rehersal for the masquerade. I MC the contest, and the rehersal takes up most of my Saturday. Aminal had to run to a wedding for part of the day, and I was sad to miss it. Later I found out that I should be glad I missed it. There was a good half hour of people bawling and babbling about "twue wuv" that made aminal squirm.

Anyway, the rehersal was, as usual, much longer than expected. The director was new this year, and leaned a lot on me. I had to run around a lot gathering info so I wouldn't look like a moron on stage. Everything went really well, despite the running around. After the show, Rochelle and John came over to ghost the con with us. (Ghosting meaning they didn't pay for a membership, but walked around the parties anyway.) Rochelle and I wore matching "Satan's School for Girls" uniforms. We found the shirts at a local sex shop a few weeks earlier, and Rochelle found us the plaid skirts and sexy stockings. We were quite a hit. ;D

Unfortunatly, again, I demanded bed quite a bit before aminal wanted me to. But at least I lasted until 1am! That's not *too* bad.

Got up at about 10am. Aminal and I worked out again. We're looney, I tell you. We then scrambled through the shower and got ourselves checked out by noon. We had until 2pm, but didn't know that until later. Sigh.

We ran home to drop off our stuff and take care of the animals. Oh! Forgot about that bit. On Saturday, the bunnies got out together and had Ultimate Bunny Fighting and set off the security system. Aminal had to run home and close Foo Foo in his house and make sure no one was bleeding. No blood, just lots of fur. They aren't quite bonded yet, obviously [/sarcasm]

Then we went back to the con so we could take a run through the dealers room and then go to Aminal's Super Destructo Robots panel. John and Rochelle registered for next year's con, yay! And we pre-registered, too, and put in our room request early, this year. Maybe we'll get a decent floor next year.

Well, maybe next year I can come to Convergence with you ... we'll see! But it does sound like you're running about like a madwoman most of the time. How exhausting! And it took you a week to recover, didn't it?

What contraption did Aminal choose to work out on? I don't recall your telling me that. Did he do a "Niles Crane" and wipe it down before he used it?? ;)

I'm sure it was a big relief that the Ultimate Bunny Fighting didn't draw any blood. I remember clumps of cat fur about the house when Chloe and Caitian fought (that was Chloe's fault, and she ended up with a permanent nick in her ear, tsk tsk). They did get along eventually. Took over a year I believe. I have much fortitude.

Ooh, there's a pretty one of a redhead in green hose (and not much else!) that I keep seeing on [info]tc_thriftstore. I want to swipe it, but I really don't know what I'd do with it. I have red hair envy, I think. tallian, I luuurve your hedgehog icon! You also have a koi one, I think, that I wanted to swipe before I knew you.

Thanks eza! The hegehog is actually one of my first little spiney babies. Her name was Gilda, after Gilda Radner, because she made me laugh a lot when i first got her. I picked her up in the store, and she didn't curl into a ball like the usual hedgie would. She crawled around and then pooped on me. *snorts*

Oh, she's so cute. I just want to hold her. Are the spines soft or hard? What are they, like fur? Or more like fingernails? (Sorry--I don't know from hedgehogs!)

BTW -- I made your earrings today! We must meet and I'll drop them off. They turned out beautifully, unlike samson28's. I just posted a fretful jewelry post, instead of replying to you earlier!

The spines are pretty hard, and extremely sharp! You don't want to get poked, but Gilda was always a calm little girl, and I could pet her spines, and even her tummy. The fur there is quite soft.

Ooo, earrings! I'm excited to see them! *jumps up and down*

Yes, we should get together. Frank took me out for Indian food--maybe he'll break down and we can all go for Thai?

Oh, now I want to pet a hedgehog!

Yeah, I didn't sleep much. Oh well, it was lots of fun! Hope you can be there next year; that would be wonderful! *grins*

Aminal chose a treadmill on Saturday, and an orbital machine on Sunday. Just like me. It was weird, I had to slow myself down on the orbital to keep my heart rate in the right place. I guess because I never use that type of machine? [/exercise geek]

As to the bunny fighting, it sucks, but I'm glad to hear your kitties took so long to like each other. This gives me hope.

"Like each other" is quite the overstatement. Chloe just got to the point where she tolerated Caitian. Still, when they'd pass each other, Chloe would make a threatening move, and Caitian would duck back. Chloe ensured Caitian knew who was top female kitty. Sebastian was very phlegmatic about the whole thing from the get-go. However, when he was younger and I introduced Chloe, there was quite a bit of fur-flying before they became affectionate (yes, affectionate). The older my kitties got, the calmer they became about new kitty members being introduced to the family. Sebastian hardly blinked, and Chloe just ignored Lexie, after having had fits over Caitian.

As for the exercise machines, I've always found that no matter how buff I get doing intense step or floor cardio, going upstairs always makes me huff 'n' puff. It's very annoying. How can I take an hour of advanced step cardio in my stride and then get winded going upstairs? Seems introducing a "different" type of exertion always makes me feel like a weakling!

Sounds like you had a blast, except for the fur flying. I feel entirely stupid--we simply spaced the con out. The 70s weren't good to us--we're missing brain cells, prolly.

I missed you!!! I wish we'd had your phone number; we could have reminded you!

Oh well, maybe next year ... *begs*

I thought you had our number! Doesn't aminal? Thought he did. I'll email it.

There be earrings! I made 'em today!

Hehehehe ... I had a thought in the car on the way home from Starbucks this morning (side note: it was a very bad idea going a week without Starbucks). I was pondering what sort of outfit I could have worn to fit in with you and Rochelle while not having to wear a miniskirt, and here's what I came up with. I'd be a sort of punky biker type, Doc Martens, ripped jeans, temporary wild streaks in my hair, clip-on nose rings, extra earrings, and so forth, some fake tattoos ... and a cleancut tee-shirt that says "Bob Jones University."

What d'you think? Too obvious? I'm sure we could play with the idea a bit, though.

I'm so all over your idea. So hot! A perfect foil for the schoolgirl outfits. I want to do this!!!
