in motion

"no beard this time. --well, a wife."

Assorted audio/visual for your Labor Day entertainment:

* Lightning in slow motion. Breathtaking.

* I missed this Doctor Who special when it first came out last year, in the break between when Martha Jones left the show and the Titanic/Kylie Minogue special. And it'll probably get taken down for copyright violation soon, so if you're a fan of the show, check out the video while you can. I never watched any of the old Doctor Who series before the show got revamped in this millenium, and wouldn't have recognized Peter Davison as the Fifth Doctor, but apparently he's the one that David Tennant grew up watching and loving as a kid, which makes this a genuinely poignant little oddity. Written by Steven Moffat: "Time Crash".

* This one won't let me embed, but go see toy soldiers find peace in Colin Munroe's video of "Sunday Bloody Sunday". (Diorama magic. The little dinosaur bones under the ground!) (Thanks yet again, Jhayne.)

* And Joey showed me "Time in a Bottle". I'm not quite as muppet-mad as some of you, but this is lovely.

Salon is providing updates about police busting into people's homes in Minnesota on the suspicion that they might be associated with lefty types who could have some inkling of protesting the Republican National Convention. It now appears that these raids are being instigated at the federal level, coordinated with the FBI.  Also,

...the Minneapolis Joint Terrorist Task Force -- an inter-agency group of federal, state and local law enforcement led by the FBI -- was actively recruiting Minneapolis residents to serve as plants, to infiltrate "vegan groups" and other left-wing activist groups and report back to the Task Force about what they were doing. There seems to be little doubt that it was this domestic spying by the Federal Government that led to the excessive and truly despicable home assaults by the police yesterday.
