I went for a flight last night...it was a gorgeous night baytour for a co-worker and her boyfriend. I had just taken off from RHV and I got the usual handoff to SJC Tower. I made my call...Evening San Jose Tower, Skyhawk 53614 just off Reid-Hillview climbing through 1000' VFR Baytour; I got the usual Cessna 53614, cross midfield at or above 2000', altimiter 29.9* response. After I read that back to SJC, I heard a quick "ree-shard" over the radio.

It's kind of cool getting recognized by your pilot friends who just so happen to be on the same freq. as you.

So I don't drink much anymore at all...I had a Shiner Bock and a pint of Smirnoff Watermelon and Iam feeling pretty good!

I was on a Baytour today with my friend Katrine...we were level 3,500 by San Carlos when I saw a SkyWest Brazilia fly past me on its approach into SFO. The NorCal controller was giving the SkyWest pilot instructions and I swear to God that the pilot of that Brazilia was my friend David Lewis.

I know a few CRJ-200 and EMB-120 pilots from SkyWest and whenever I see a SkyWest bird I wonder if it might be them...I find the whole thing kind of funny.

Anyway, it was a good flight. AND the Niners lost.

I had my first "There's something on the runway, go around"...

So, the other day I took a friend up in N748SP (C-172S). We took off from 13L at RHV and headed towards South County. I let her fly, then we did a steep turn. I noticed the weather was deteriorating, so we headed back to RHV for some landings. I landed on 13L and taxied back for another trip around the pattern. It got kind of busy...I was #3 for landing behind a Citabria and another Cessna. Tower gave me 13R and so I setup for that.

When I get over the fence I notice something on the runway, what it is I am not quite sure. As I get closer, I notice that it's a ton of pigeons! They're all just chillin'...I'm like "yeah...go around".

I always thought my first "something on runway" go-around would be something more dramatic, like a person, plane, vechile, deer, etc...not a damn group of pigeons!

.8TT, 156.5 total to date.

Words to live by for pilots:

"At the end of the day, the controllers, ops supervisors, maintenance guys, weather guessers, and birds; they're all trying to kill you and your job is to not let them!"

A couple of updates...

1. I don't work at Tradewinds anymore; that was as of the 29th of August. I am still allowed to fly there, which is nice since I enjoy flying there.

I started working at a hookah lounge on 8/10 and I LOVE IT! It's so nice. I made $22 in tips tonight. It's nice working in a chill environment for someone who wants you there.

2. G1000 checkout: Tomorrow I begin the flight portion of the Cessna 172SP G1000 checkout. It is an amazing system!

I think that's it for now.

Just advising that all is well and I am still alive...I haven't had anything interesting to update about in a while, hence no updates.

That is all!

What is the best way to avoid the death heat that's been affecting San Jose lately?

Grab a C-172 and set course to Santa Barbara. It was 79 degrees there yesterday, while it was 100+ here.

I win!
