Aiya is drenched with sweat and clearly exhausted, but she insists on being the first to hold her son.
"He has hair," she says, and laughs. "How unexpected."
"Children are often full of surprises," Gyatso agrees, sitting on the small stool by her bed. "How are you feeling?"
"Happy," says Aiya. "It was a long and difficult birth, but," she strokes the child's hair, "I must say it was worth it."
"You should rest, Aiya," Gyatso says. "You have done very well."
"Still the consummate teacher," Aiya says, shaking her head. "I hope you'll train him, when he's old enough."
"Perhaps I will be retired from teaching by then." Gyatso smiles. "I am not getting any younger."
"I find it difficult to believe that you will ever retire, Gyatso. You have taught generations before me, and generations since."
Gyatso inclines his head slightly in agreement. "Have you decided on a name?"
"I thought - perhaps…" Aiya strokes her son's face. "Aang."
"Aang," Gyatso repeats, watching the mother and her son. "It is a good name."
