here's what's going on...

i know i haven't posted in a very long time but i am surviving fine. wondering where to start.

in the last few years my passion for music has been rekindled. i have attended hundreds of concert all over the country. i connected with Wavy Gravy and worked at his camp, camp winarainbow, for the past three summers as a volunteer cook. my friend Rose, now fiance, invited me to come and share the fun. while there i connected with dr. patch adams who has become my mentor.

i lost my job due to funding cuts, so i decided to retire early. i still need to make money (to go to concerts, etc.) so i've gone into farming. Rose and i bought 27 acres in Mendocino County this summer and i have been rehabbing the property, barns, and our 106 year old farm house. meanwhile i have been doing some work for neighbors.

we have many friends in our small community and have become part of the extended Hog Farm family. For those of you that don't know who they are, check out the first Woodstock and you will know. Basically we are bunch of old hippies...the first ones around. we have strong ties to the Grateful Dead, Merry Pranksters, and basically all the sixties and seventies musicians you can name.

The name of our place is Darkstar Oaks (google it if you want) or the link is Http://www.darkstaroaks.com .

i keep contact with my music friends via Facebook. my user name is david rio maggiore. not sure what the settings on that account are, so i'm not sure about friending. seems i have too many friends.

i will start blogging on our own website, darkstaroaks.com soon.

otherwise, all is well. looks like italia will have to wait a while.

pace e benedizione a tutti i miei amici Live Journal.
ciao!

walking on...

was here for a moment...only to say "I'll be continuing my journey in a netherland of peace, exploration, creativity, writing, and farming with fellow musicians.
in an out like the unexpected afternoon breeze...returning upon the completion of the cycle.
ciao!

back to my roots

the last four months have been about going to concerts hearing all my favorites of the past...thanks to wavy on the right...and patch on the left. it's about being comfortable to be oneself, to laugh and make others do the same, being free to explore and following ones nose...

"when the dark clouds start to blow...and you need somewhere to go...and you want some company...that really cares...turn around, turn around...turn around an i'll be there...leading home."

ciao!

Writer's Block: Good Catch

Do you have a "catch phrase" for which you are known?
"never get anything with a mouth"

definitions...

In case you missed The Washington Post's Mensa Invitational which once again asked readers to take any word from the dictionary, alter it by adding, subtracting, or changing one letter, and supply a new definition.

The winners are:

Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period of time.
Ignoranus: A person who's both stupid and an asshole.
Intaxication: Euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.
Reintarnation: Coming back to life as a hillbilly.
Bozone (n.): The substance surrounding stupid people that stops bright ideas from penetrating. The bozone layer, unfortunately, shows little sign of breaking down in the near future.
Foreploy: Any misrepresentation about yourself for the purpose of getting laid.
Giraffiti: Vandalism spray-painted very, very high.
Sarchasm: The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.
Inoculatte: To take coffee intravenously when you are running late.
Hipatitis: Terminal coolness.
Osteopornosis: A degenerate disease. (This one got extra credit.)
Karmageddon: It's when everybody is sending off all these really bad vibes, and then the Earth explodes, and it's a serious bummer.
Decafalon (n.): The grueling event of getting through the day consuming only things that are good for you
Glibido: All talk and no action.
Dopeler effect: The tendency of stupid ideas to seem smarter when they come at you rapidly.
Arachnoleptic fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked t hrough a spider web.
Beelzebug (n.): Satan in the form of a mosquito, that gets into your bedroom at three in the morning and cannot be cast out.
Caterpallor (n.): The color you turn after finding half a worm in the fruit you're eating.

Writer's Block: Looking Forward

What are you looking forward to in 2008?

...don't let the past remind us of what we are not now...ciao!

a day i'll remember...forever

so this is the mountain that the fault is named after: loma prieta. as a kid we would go up there many times to look out over the santa clara valley, santa cruz and monterey county...and that great bay around which we live...the monterey bay...one step to the pacific ocean and adventures not yet discovered...
i'm talking about the "earthquake" of 89 that took place just before the world series in the bay area. where was i? picking up my son from work in capitola, just about ready to get on the freeway and stopped at a stop sign. all of a sudden my truck began to vibrate...and while at a stop the truck move over one entire lane...the person in front of me jumped out of his car and went over to grab hold of a high tension power line pole to gain footing. then it stopped. we raced onto the freeway and drove home where we found the mother of my kids standing on the porch with my youngest son and one of his friends. everyone was okay and our house was unscathed, though neighbors lost many things and incured damage...
when i knew that everyone was okay i drove off to check on friends who were alone and/or elderly...making sure they were okay also.
then, the next day i went to view the down town i grew up in...it was destroyed...buildings collapsed, lives lost and the streets were filled with rubble. the entire down town was being fenced off to keep people out.
i went to my business and found my entire inventory, supplies and machinery scattered about the 12 K sq. ft. they occupied.
all this to say that it was a life changing event in my life...what i had known was gone or damaged and would never be the same again. we all were in shock as we didn't have water, gas or electricity for a couple of days...and then the moss landing power plant came back on line and we began the journey to recovery.
i remembered something i learned as a kid that "nothing lasts forever." and so it was true. the physical memories of my childhood were gone or soon to be destroyed and new was soon to come about...and it all took place under the watch of the mountain loma prieta...the birth place path of the quake of 1989 in santa cruz california...as well as other places in the greater bay area of northern california.
...just thinking and remembering out loud... ciao!

You are The Wheel of Fortune

Good fortune and happiness but sometimes a species of
intoxication with success

The Wheel of Fortune is all about big things, luck, change, fortune. Almost always good fortune. You are lucky in all things that you do and happy with the things that come to you. Be careful that success does not go to your head however. Sometimes luck can change.

and the life of a pie rat goes on...ciao!

hours in the sky...

from west to east and back with flight delays, lay overs and the normal way of airlines...gracefully accepted to intrude and delightfully intrigued by a persona of light, endurance and giving. reminded again that the world is not about me being center stage but rather nudged to understand that i am a bit player in a production larger than i can describe. so, yes, at home...the old thoughts come back about life and just being. wonder why i take myself down the rabbit holes of endless confusion? two stars pass in the night sky, seemingly or wishfully close and the meteor dust captured briefly as i wonder to what end...high fidelity always seems so unreachable, especially when one feels so inadequate.
a time to live...a time to...who might know what the next wavelength might be about? looking down upon the clouds today, i kept wondering where i fit or if that is something attainable or if i should even try. sometimes one just wears out...
