It's awfully dark.  I don't know how I got here or how to leave; I just know I'm not where I'm supposed to be.  There are faces all around me; people staring, gawking, pointing.

"No one's come in like that for years."

"He musn't've noticed it."

"Such a pity."

I shook my head, trying to clear the cobwebs and mist that had settled there.  The last I could recall, I was battling my cousin in the Department of Mysteries.  And now I'm here.  Not that I know where the hell here is.

"Oi.  Try closing your eyes and not thinking for a minute, mate."  A vaguely familiar voice spoke, presumably to me.  I could tell he was standing behind me, but it wasn't shadow or body-heat or scent that gave him away.  It was the overwhelming cold I felt when he approached.

"You'll be alright, you know," he said.  He crouched down next to me and stuck out a hand.  "Cedric," he said, by way of introductions.  "I believe I know you, although we've never met.  Seen your face quite a few times."

I cocked an inquisitive eyebrow at him.  "My face?"

"Wanted posters," he answered simply.

Ah.  That would do it.  I folded my hand into his and shook.  It was cold, not inviting, not reassuring at all like a handshake should be.

"Where am I?"

"The other side."  His answer was met with stony silence on my part.  "As in, you're dead, Mister Black."

"Bloody hell."

"Guess you didn’t quite see the archway, then, did you?"

No.  Guess I didn't.

"That thing's fuckin' deadly, you know."

Wish I'd've known that beforehand.
