post-globes thoughts

this is a rant about pretentious movie snobs who think their educated tastes elevate them above the awards system and anyone else who buys into crowd-pleasing drivel such as avatar. if you suspect you might be one of these people, don't read this, because the generalisations i'm about to make will probably enrage you.

why i still firmly believe avatar is the Best Movie EverCollapse )

Were the World Mine

Omg, this movie is AMAZING. I usually don't like indie movies (yes, even the gay ones), but this movie was weird but adorable at the same time. There's glitter and fairies and costumes and hot boys (most of whom are gay irl, yay). It's like Glambert: The Movie. Bonus: the main guy looks a lot like ZEfron.

Some caps to inspire you to watch the movieCollapse )

Not gonna lie -- I really want to sign up for hd_worldcup. There's something about a blank sign-up template that makes my fingers twitch. *restrains self*

This Oscars season has me flailing like crazy. Milk, Slumdog Millionaire, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Seven Pounds... FOUR OF THE BEST MOVIES I'VE EVER SEEN, and all released in one awards season. Benjamin Button is one movie everyone needs to see at one point in time. It's fantastic. My goal is to watch all the potential major Oscar nominees, so Vicky Cristina Barcelona, Frost/Nixon, Revolutionary Road (*cringe*), Changeling, and The Reader when it's released are next.

I told myself I would write SKOM today. Instead I wound up writing 6k of a WiP I started a few days ago. *facepalm* I messaged person958 about using the prompt that I bitched for weeks about not getting in hd_inspired (the Harry getting stuck in the Mirror of Erised one). I'm trying to approach this one the same way I approached P.S. I Love You, i.e. by not worrying about making it good and just writing whatever pops into my head. That way I might actually finish this fic, though the chances are very slim.

Gah. Dentist (root canal... *whimpers*) and work all day tomorrow, when I'd much rather spend the day reading more hd_hols fics. Speaking of, go read He Dreams in Monochrome! It's incredibly angsty and focuses heavily on the issue of infidelity at its ugliest. I realise it might not be for everyone, but I personally loved it, ambiguous ending and all. Once Upon A Time, Yesterday is also fantastic.

Also! I finally sent out holiday cards today, LOL. Tell me when you guys get them, k? :x

First and most important of all, IT'S RAHM MOTHERFUCKING EMANUEL'S BIRTHDAY TODAY! Happy Birthday, bb. Don't ever change ♥

My Thanksgiving and Black Friday were both pretty eventful. I saw Twilight with some friends on Thanksgiving, and then set off at midnight for what would eventually become a 12-hour Black Friday shopping spree. It was epic, to say the least.

I didn't get to holiday cards, and I don't know if I'll be able to this weekend. I've got a 12-page term paper due on Tuesday, my final screenplay outline due tomorrow, and another final paper due next week. I've got banquets on Thursday and Friday, though I probably won't go to the DT one on Thursday. I still need to make my paddle for my big, and my friend from Chicago is visiting this week. So... no time :(

HSM3 and fic rec

1. Went to the HSM3 midnight premiere at University Citywalk last night, and I can say with absolute certainty that it was the best midnight premiere I've ever been to. It flattened the midnight premieres for the last three HP movies and the last two PotC movies in terms of crowd excitement. Everyone was singing together and cheering. Most of the people in attendance were college students or adults, which was a good thing, because Zac Efron's naked back is enough to bump any PG-rated movie up to an R rating. Surprisingly enough, there were a lot of guys, and they were the ones getting the crowd going.

As for the movie itself, it was amazing. It basically recycled the format used in the first two movies, but improved it with better choreography, better music, better special effects, and more of Zac Efron's bare skin. "The Boys Are Back" was by far the best dance sequence; everyone in the theatre gave it a standing ovation. Also, Zac and Vanessa's on-screen chemistry? AMAZING. It was so tangible that I felt uncomfortably voyeuristic watching it.

*is going to watch the movie again tomorrow* :D

2. This couldn't be more different from HSM: holy fucking hell. 16k of uncensored, unabashed Harry/Draco/Albus/Scorpius porn = *brain explodes* READ IT RIGHT NOW.

I just watched Candy, and it was incredible. It's one of those rare movies that I was able to watch all the way through without pausing once to scoff at the bad acting or the unrealistic nature of just about everything. I usually don't like drug addiction films, especially when romance is involved, but this one was just so convincing that I forgave most of the melodrama. Also, Heath Ledger? AMAZING. Abbie Cornish was great, but I hated her character so much that I couldn't really appreciate her acting as much as Heath's.

Bed time -- have to wake up in a few hours to go wait in line for the big football game against OSU tomorrow.

  • I just finished watching all three and a half hours of "Alexander Revisted: The Final Cut". It was incredible. I cried, I yelled at my laptop screen, I nearly passed out from holding my breath for so long. I know the theatrical version of "Alexander" was slammed by the critics, but seriously, the final cut is ten thousand times better. Stone reordered the scenes so that Alexander's childhood is shown in flashbacks, and, more importantly, he didn't try to tone down Alexander's relationships with Hephaistion and Bagoas. Unfortunately, the Alexander/Bagoas sex scene is still missing, but they kissed! Twice! It was wonderful. I had to pause the movie so I could flail around for a few minutes. In all seriousness, though, please give the movie another chance if you watched it in theatres and hated it. I guarantee you'll find something to love about this version.
  • UM WHAT IS THIS ABOUT DAVID COOK DATING KIMBERLY CALDWELL?? Talk about out of left field. More importantly, WHY HER? ;__; Why not me? But okay, Cook likes her, so I'll try not to bash her too much to be supportive... I'm sure she's a wonderful girl, even if Idol rejected her. *sulks*
  • Dude, I'm so excited for Terminus :D

Well, I'm almost done with chapter 11 of ATW. But that's not really what I was updating about...I just had to take the time to gush about two movies: Brokeback Mountain and High School Musical.

I'm so glad I finally saw these two...Collapse )
